General

  • Award-winning park two miles from Wimborne
  • Direct access to the Castleman Way for walks, cycling and horse riding
  • Pool, bar, family room and play park

Simply smashing: award-winning Merley Court Touring Park two miles from the Dorset town of Wimborne is firmly set up for family days and seaside stays: it's a short drive to Poole and Bournemouth, and is full of facilities for all including an outdoor pool open in summer, a bar and family room serving up lashings of drinks and meals, a shop, a games room and a play park.

Want more? Guests can also use the facilities at Merley Court’s sister site Oakdene seven miles away along the A31, with over 20 on-site activities including a gym (a small charge applies), sauna, steam room and indoor pool. I say.

The park is set in 15 acres of sheltered grassland and woodland, two miles from the market town of Wimborne and a quick drive from the sands of Poole and Bournemouth. It has direct access to the waymarked Castleman Trailway for 16.5 miles of not too strenuous cycling, walking and horse-riding; you can pedal your way to Poole from here or amble along by the riverside.

Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between all spring bank holiday time and early september (subject to weather conditions).

Facilities/activities including the use of facilities at Merley's sister site Oakdene (7 miles away) are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Single-sex groups of more than 3 people or mixed adult parties of more than 6 people are not accepted via Pitchup.com.

Liked the pitch sizes, they were huge! Also loved the pool and park for kids! The shop is amazingly stocked too! The WiFi is a great bonus with good signal strength

    Disliked:

The fact some parents didn't tell the kids about the 11pm to 7:30pm rule, my kids (ages 7 and 10) were super annoyed at being awoke by clattering scooters at 6:30am! Also annoyingly everyone let their kids go to the park unsupervised of which is against site rules, some kids were really rude and needed their parents supervision. Some of the showers lost pressure when people flushed loos and it went super chilly! They were however nice and clean!

We have stayed at Merely Court on several occasions whilst visiting relatives close to the area. We have found the site a good location for visiting the surrounding areas of Wimbourne, Poole etc. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The pitchces are well spaced out and level. The facilities are clean and tidy if not a little dated. The lower toilet/Shower block are satisfactory but the top block seriously need new showers/refurbishment. We noticed that this visit there are more development of mobile homes/ lodges etc. We hope that Shorefield Field who own the park still keep the touring park open. Cause we would use the park again.

Rather crowded and often noisy in the evening. 05/08/2016

We enjoyed the pool. Friendly staff. Enjoyed the walk along the tramway to Wimborne.

    Disliked:

Paid for a second car but were not allowed to bring it on to the site even to unload. Toilets and showers were often dirty and the water pressure in the showers was very poor. Disappointed by the size of our pitch and it had not been adequately prepared as we found two tent pegs left in the ground. Overall we found the site rather crowded and claustrophobic.
My final comment relates to the traffic problems we encountered whenever we wanted to drive anywhere. Obviously this is out of your control but maybe Dorset County Council should be made aware that the lengthy delays will put people off visiting in the future.

Theft, Defamation and Lies - An Awful Campsite with Awful Staff 17/02/2017

There is nothing I liked about this campsite.

    Disliked:

Without doubt, the WORST campsite I have ever had the misfortune of visiting. Not only is the manageress of the facility effectively a deranged megalomaniac, but the Head Office staff are equally as brain-dead - and also thieves. Unless you want to have your money literally stolen from your bank account (as they did to me) and are interested in enduring a tense holiday in awful conditions whilst having your character defamed and subsequently being blocked from all modes of private complaint or query about said theft and defamation, then please, please stay away. There are so many lovely campsites in Dorset - you would be well advised to choose anywhere but here.

Just back from the worst holiday of my life. Thanks Merley Court, you managed to make every bit of our mini break bloody awful. If you are doing noisy building work, don't rent out to campers - that's just basic camping 101. Another tip: don't expect us to pay through the nose for more than one car then give us nowhere to park the damn thing! Cramped pitches, very claustrophobic. Bad atmosphere with nasty snippy staff. We had a little solar light outside our van and the manager told us to move it for no reason at all. We won't be coming back.

Local attractions

Make room in the itinerary for a trip or two to Wimborne for its minster and its indoor market, the biggest undercover market in the south of England: it has a huge flea market and car boot every Saturday, fresh local produce including meat, cheese and fish, antiques, jewellery and vintage gear to rummage through… start saving up.

Nearby Dorchester and Swanage markets are worth a punt too, and heaps more shopping is available in Bournemouth and Poole.

Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch are the main day trips for visitors to this part of Dorset, with Portsmouth further along the coast to the east and Weymouth and the Isle of Portland easily reachable to the west.

All have miles of award-winning beaches, a myriad of museums, theatres and restaurants, boat trips, sea fishing and watersports for all sorts of landlubber and seafarer holidaymakers; combine both with a comb around the Jurassic Coast to see what fossils you can find (even if it’s an unidentifiable shard of bone, be sure and tell the kids it’s from a T-Rex).

If you’re more of a sea dog than an urbanite, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is first class for a gander around historic ships and pretending you’re Horatio (or maybe that’s just us). The National Museum of the Royal Navy is here too and there are several other attractions on offer including the Mary Rose, harbour tours by boat and Action Stations with simulators, tech experiments and a giant climbing tower; one ticket covers all dockyard attractions and is valid for a year.

A harbour cruise from Poole, the biggest natural harbour in Europe, should also be firmly added to the diary – look out for the Very Posh houses of the Sandbanks peninsula if you feel like gnashing your teeth in envy (it has the fourth highest land value in the world and the moniker of Britain's Palm Beach).

Land fans are loaded with options in the area: try exploring and pony-trekking in the New Forest (the main visitor centre at Lyndhurst has info on this and heaps more foresty things to see and do); golfing at Dudsbury or making your way around the several National Trust properties in Dorset including Brownsea Island, one of the best wildlife-watching spots in the south-west.

For a rainy day at Poole, the Tower Park Leisure Complex has a water park, cinemas, bowling and an award-winning soft play centre.

And, as the kids will remind you even if we don’t, Peppa Pig World is in the vicinity too, along with other famed kid-friendly attractions like Monkey World at Wareham, the theme park Adventure Wonderland at Christchurch, the formidable Tank Museum at Bovington and swinging about at Go Ape! in the Moors Valley Country Park.
