  • Peaceful secluded park over a 30-acre wildlife haven
  • Bournemouth and Christchurch 20 minutes' drive
  • Woodlands walks, pitch and putt, library and boules all available
Spread over 30 acres of Dorset woodland, river, heathland and lakes, Back of Beyond meanders over countryside naturally inhabited by a wide variety of wildlife: look out for deer, squirrels, moles, rabbits and the soaring sights of birds including the resident woodpecker. The site is dog friendly too (apart from in one of the wildlife-laden accommodation areas) and there's a 10-acre woodland area set aside especially for canines. Restful pastimes include boules, woodland walks, and a five-acre nine-hole pitch and putt course among the squirrels, moles and rabbits (hire the necessary bits and pieces on site). Facilities here include heated toilet and shower blocks, a private disabled shower room, hairdryers, washing-up areas, a reception area, Monty's Bar and a shop. Essential supplies (food and beer) can be found at the two excellent pubs within walking distance; supermarkets, restaurants and two caravan and camping centres are within a few minutes by car.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Loved it, the shower and toilets were clean as a whistle as was the whole camp. WiFi at the pitch was a surprise but a welcome one. We enjoyed Monty's bar aswell. Lovely beers on tap to. Close enough to town and shops but far enough asset back so no noise and in the woods. Adult only too which is a great plus. Overall 10/10

Disliked: Nothing

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Clean toilets, showers and shop. Area was ok lots of places to visit. Good customer service

Disliked: Bar only open till 8 pm was a disappointment we don't want to go to bed at 8 pm. There was lots of vacant places don't understand why we had to book 5 days when we would of preferred 4 this shouldn't be dictated how long you have to stay.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Anita. We do hope you come again. Monty's bar is for a late afternoon, early evening drink. We are not a pub, so we do close at 8.30pm for the peace and tranquillity of the park. We do have the Woodman and the St Leonards pubs that you can walk to from the park. Christmas and New Year are high season due to demand. That is why we have a 5 night minimum stay. We were completely full for New Year so maybe the empty pitches were customers out for the day in Motor homes? Many thanks and I hope you do come again.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Quiet pitch size of pitch no noise. Friendly site nice bar area.

Disliked: Not great selection foods in shop but it was end season. Milk went off quickly. But loved site we left day early due to storm brewing. Would off preferred to stay for New Year but said no spaces.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Gillian. Thank you for the review. The shop is only a small shop for essentials, so we cant stock a huge range. However we have many supermarkets all in a small drive from us. New Year is very popular and sells out fast. We are already half sold for 2024 New year, so if you want to join us get booked in soon.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: The food vans The covered bar

Disliked: More night time lighting

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the review and the top score. We do have low lighting at the park and sensor lighting for the shower blocks, but we wont put street lighting up as we have so many customers who enjoy the starts and the lack of light pollution. We would always recommend a torch for night time walking. Many thanks

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Perfect pitch size well maintained grounds and shower/toilets. Having stayed there in winter with frost on the ground it was an amazing place to stay. We enjoyed walking through the forest and around the lovely ponds it had a lovely christmas feel. There is a very large picnic area with amazing views. Food vendors are a great plus we didn’t use the outside bar although it looked snug with the heaters and people had blankets. We are looking forward to returning in spring/ summer

From the manager: Thank you so much and we will look forward to seeing you in 2024. Best regards Martin

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: We loved everything about this place. The location, the check in, the facilities, the pitches... Everything was brilliant. The place even has WiFi that did not totally suck and was accessible form the van. In fact, my wife and I thought that it was one of the best places we've stayed in the campervan. Full stop. Great work thanks for a lovely stay.

From the manager: Thank you Luke. Our pleasure. If you liked it so much on a rainy day in December you should come back in the Spring. You will be blown away at how beautiful it is then. Do come again.

Route directions

Some guests have issues with the site address when put into some satnav devices. Please print out these directions and follow these when you are close to the site to ensure you find the site easily. From the north or east: From the M3, take J14 onto the M27 westbound and join the A31 (signposted Ringwood). Pass Ringwood; stay on the A31 to St. Leonards and pass St. Leonards Hotel on left. At the next roundabout (signed Boundary Lane), turn right into the site lane. Take care: this turn is set back from the roundabout by a few yards, so look for the site sign and one for Shamba. From the west: Follow the signs for Ringwood on the A31 eastbound. Pass The Woodman pub on your left. At the next roundabout go straight over and immediately left into the site lane. Drive straight down the lane, pass Shamba and go through the twin towers to the site barrier. When you arrive at the barrier system press the button for attention.
