If there was an award for ‘most aptly named park’, Back-of-Beyond Touring Park in Dorset might just carry off the gong – and we’d give it an accolade or three for activities, location and quiet calm too.
Spread over 30 acres of Dorset woodland, river, heathland and lakes, Back-of-Beyond is reached via a quiet country lane and meanders over countryside naturally inhabited by a wide variety of wildlife: look out for deer, squirrels, moles, rabbits and the soaring sights of birds including the resident woodpecker. Only 80 pitches are allowed among all this undisturbed space and, even better for the stampede of liberated parents we can almost hear as we type, the park is adults-only.
Restful pastimes on site include free fishing on the park’s lakes and rivers (bring your own equipment and pick up a fishing licence when you arrive); boules; woodland walks and a five acre nine-hole pitch and putt course among the squirrels, moles and rabbits (hire the necessary bits and pieces on site).
Guests can generally pick their own pitches and a particularly wildlife-filled option is available in ‘Emma’s Field’, a woodland glade. Although Back-of-Beyond is very dog-friendly, they aren’t allowed in Emma’s Field or around the fishing lakes (but pooches can let off steam in the ten-acre woodland area set aside especially for canines).
New owners Victoria and Martin took over Back-of-Beyond in February 2014 and are gently determined to keep the peaceful ethos of the site as well as keep guests tranquil re standards: the up-to-date facilities include three heated loo and shower blocks with power showers and hot water, a private/disabled shower room, hairdryers, indoor and outdoor washing-up areas and reception with morning bakery, lending library, newspapers, launderette and a shop selling bottled gas and essentials. All amenities are free to use and open 24 hours.
Essential supplies (food and beer) can be found at the two excellent pubs within walking distance; supermarkets, restaurants and two caravan and camping centres are within a few minutes by car.

It's now possible to make group bookings on Pitchup.com for up to 30 adults and 30 children.
As long as the 'one unit per pitch' rule is not highlighted on the pitch type information (please check this before completing your booking), you will be able to pitch your tents together on one booking.
If you are not satisfied with the results generated, try breaking your booking down for more options. For example, if you're a group of 10, enter five people for your initial search and book two pitches. Use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together when booking multiple pitches or accommodation units: the campsite or park will try to grant your request. Click the 'Make another booking like this' button on the confirmation page to take you back to your chosen campsite/park listing page so you can make your next booking straight away. Please note the same dates and party size will be used, so you'll need to change this if the number of people or child ages are different.
Before booking, please check the listing page for any group restrictions. These normally appear in a section titled 'Please note'. Please also check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit - especially for a large party - is suitable for the space you will be provided with.
