Edwards Farm: Look out for the little signs with a white tipi on to find the entrance

General

  • Secluded and simple site on a farm in scenic, rural surrounds
  • A mile's walk to Shaftesbury and a five-minute drive to Duncliffe Wood
  • A 35-minute drive from Stonehenge and 50 minutes from the coast

If a secluded stay is what you’re seeking for an upcoming hol, escape to Edwards Farm in dreamy Dorset and settle in at a site on a quiet field with oodles of space.

Numbers are limited here to boost the peaceful vibes – and to make sure the whole experience feels as private as possible – plus barbecues are allowed as well. Wood is available on request for campfires, so you can also amp up the outdoorsy atmosphere by building a blaze too.

If you’re after ingredients to assemble alfresco bites, set off on a short uphill walk to the centre of Shaftesbury (15 minutes) and scour the local shops (or just jump in the car for the five-minute journey). As for adventures, the park is at the base of the well-known Foyle Hill cycling route, with sublime scenery luring in bikers and hikers.

With Duncliffe Woods (five minutes’ drive), Melbury Abbas (10 minutes), Hambledon Hills (15 minutes) and Hod Hill (20 minutes) all in close proximity, stunning strolls are in fact accessible in all directions.

Back on base, amenities are of the basic variety and include a field shelter with dry toilets and cold-water taps.

Edwards Farm is a prime pick for convenience as parking is permitted next to pitches and it’s a 20-minute drive from the Warminster exit off the A303. At the moment, the site asks that you take any rubbish away with you.

We spent a lovely couple of days at the farm in warm, sunny weather, in the prettily decorated bell tent, with tea lights, and a little library. There was even a potted olive tree on the decking with twinkling lights, and In the evenings we enjoyed sitting round the fire pit (logs supplied) watching the sun go down. Every detail had been carefully thought through. The field kitchen and loos were spotlessly clean, and hot water was plentiful after all the sunshine! The walk in the next field with a bench at the top to rest weary legs offered spectacular views. Our doggie loved the walk. Sarah and Alex were very hospitable and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Congratulations!*

We had a lovely time at Edwards Farm. Booked a few days mid week at short notice as the forecast was good. Comms. in advance from Sarah were excellent. Only 2 pitches taken on the days we stayed. The pitches were well spaced out and inset to the hedges making it feel very cosy. Solar powered showers were pipping hot when we visited even in the morning (let them run a bit if you are first as I found to my cost), toilets were spotless. Log bags and free fire-pit were very generous. Sarah was very welcoming and keen to ensure you had a good stay, plenty of advice on the local area. Loved watching the sunset from the field next door.

Hi Vicky,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review and post some photos!
It was good to see you again for your return visit, we hope the campsite gave you some rest and relax, it was so quiet!
I know you liked how basic our campsite was so hopefully our few upgrades didn't challenge your desire to strip back life! We love that the cold water was enough for you, we have to say we are pleased to now offer hot!
We just wanted to say that the fire pit loan is free, it's only the logs that we charge £3 a bag for.
Come back and see us again if you can, we think it will get busier..
Sarah and Alex.

We stayed at Edwards farm for one night and had a great time. It was really quiet with only two more families there. It’s great for families, the kids could safely run around. The owners are very friendly and the facilities were spotless. Lovely walks around the site.

    We will definitely be back!

Thank you! It was great to see your children having so much fun...the campsite was quite quiet so you had the luxury of all that space which they made the most of...it was a pleasure to meet you and we really do hope you come back and see us again..it looks like 'staycation' is the theme of this coming summer so lets hope the sun continues to shine and campsites are busy, come for two nights next time!

The quiet, green spacious surroundings offered exactly what we needed after the lockdown period in London. The generous space between pitches with the tall grass and wildflowers were great. I love 'back to basics' campsites that offer plenty of space for my three boys to roam safely while still being able to keep an eye on them. Just having space to run and play football / frisbee / badminton was perfect. A chance for them to reconnect and simply be together.
The toilets and washing up area were perfectly clean. The outdoor showers were invigorating and we had great fun using them.
The owners were extremely nice and checked every day to make sure we were ok. The campsite dog, Honey, was the best attraction for our kids and they looked forward to seeing her every day.
The site is perfectly located for exploring Dorset and within walking distance to a few nice pubs in Shaftesbury.
We would love to stay here again.

Honey misses you all already! Lucky little dog to have 3 such delightful boys to play with her. Thank you for your great review, the only thing you omitted was how much your car enjoyed being onsite!! Or was it us who enjoyed your car!! Please bring it back to see us! Of course we hope you come too!! We would love to see you all...

This was our third visit to Edwards Farm. A great, no frills campsite - but has everything we needed. Our little boy loved the novelty of showering in the field. The owners go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need and are very welcoming. A short walk into Shaftesbury and use of a second field which offers amazing views of the sunset.

Thank you for visiting us again, it is so lovely for us to welcome back return campers. We hope you enjoyed the few upgrades we have put in place, your little man enjoying the showers is such fun especially as the weather was so great for you. Is it too much for us to say come again?! We hope not!

Thank you Alison for your review, Alex will be pleased you liked the long grass, it is actually being topped off tomorrow, no doubt growing back quite quickly in this weather..
I am so glad you saw the deer, there is a family living in the next field, they are often hanging around!
With a strange summer of travel or no travel depending on whatever the government decides..come and see us again..

Those more culturally curious can navigate their way towards National Trust attractions like Stourhead (20 minutes), King Alfred's Tower (half an hour) and Montacute House (45 minutes) or skedaddle to the ancient site of Stonehenge (35 minutes) to gaze at the granddaddy of all things historical.

Keen for the coast? Peruse the seaside around Poole (50 minutes) and Bournemouth (an hour), perhaps heading off on an amble between the two; urban explores are to be had around Bath’s Roman ruins (55 minutes), at Salisbury’s high-spired cathedral (50 minutes) or closer by at the abbey in the pretty settlement of Sherborne (half an hour).
