General
- Adult only, quiet, peaceful site
- Near the sea at Lyme Regis World Heritage Jurassic Coast
- Near the famous River Cottage HQ
The nearest campsite to River Cottage HQ, this adult-only, couples-only, tent-only, peaceful, spacious and tidy field is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty overlooking a wooded valley near the coast.
The site is just two and a half miles to Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast on the number 31 bus stop, within walking distance of the local pub and a short bus ride/drive to Axminster train station.
It has a selection of flat areas and 'cut aways' for pitching tents in our spacious field with lots of parking either next to your tent or in the tarred car park.
Each pitch comes with its own picnic bench, access to clean showers/wet room with lots of hot water, heaters, paper bath mats, liquid soap, and soft loo roll, and the use of fridge freezers, washing-up facilities and drinking water taps, all included in the tariff.
There's no pavement between the campsite and River Cottage HQ, the bus stop and inn, so please bring a torch and reflective jacket. Although the facilities are well lit, the camping field is not.
There are no tarred paths on the field - bring sensible footwear for dewy mornings and for the shower/wet room. The campers' kitchen, shower and wet rooms are in a well-lit tarred area.
Rubbish bins and recycling box provided: please bag up your rubbish.
Please note that this is a non-commercialised site (there are no entertainment or bar facilities); the owners offers relaxed, rural and peaceful camping.

However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.

Delighted our campers enjoyed their stay. Thank you so much for your kind words - clearly experienced campers who know what to expect when camping - particularly glad you liked the facilities. Ah, yes it's been a wonderfully peaceful summer here - even when fully booked with the maximum of 10 tents with max 2 adults per tent on site! Quiet when full! Bliss! Joy |

Delighted our campers enjoyed having a fire in a fire pit with a pub nearby and local bus. Customer Service - I offer a quick non complicated easy check in to allow campers to get on with their camping. Local information is supplied in the campers kitchen along with the fridge freezers. I am available 24/7 at the front door or end of a mobile which is clearly displayed if required and I can be seen around the shower and kitchen facility lots of times during the day from 6am - 10pm checking the showers are clean and there is plenty of loo roll etc. (In fact I think one of these campers met me at 5.30am having an early morning check!) I take the view that campers don't want the proprietor pacing the camp field! I keep out of the field and consider this to be the politest most considerate way to behave on my part - leaving my adult campers alone to enjoy the peace and quiet my tiny ten pitch adult only camp site delivers. Lyme Regis is hilly: this is well known and can be seen on google maps before arrival - (the rolling hills of Devon and Dorset) but there are car parks top and bottom of the town with useful tips given on arrival as part of my customer service to park up early before 10am at peak times in order to get a space in this very popular area of the The World Heritage Jurassic Coast - England's only natural heritage site. We are set well away from the A35 but yes it can be heard at times depending literally on which way the wind is blowing. The price we pay for being in one of the most attractive, historical places in the South West with the Jurassic cliffs on our doorstep (as per the TV show Broadchurch). May I take this opportunity to remind campers to take their tents, boxes, sleeping bags etc home with them. I have to pay for commercial rubbish bins which are very very expensive and fill quickly at this time of year. I can only offer normal rubbish and bottle recycling on site. I regret I can't take your unwanted broken/wet camping equipment as much as I would like to assist. Joy |

Delighted our campers saw bats - this is a great experience to record for others. Useful tips like this are welcomed. Regret I don't have the opportunity to do much as regards customer service as I just check folk in at the front door so they can get on with their holiday - I'm happy to chat all day if campers require a bit more on the "customer service" front and am a font of expert inside local knowledge. For anyone wanting any local information other than what is provided on the web site I can usually be found sweeping & cleaning out the loo block on numerous occasions throughout the day - so do stop and say hello! Being just 2.5 miles from England's only Natural World Heritage Site, here on the Jurassic Coast is a great attraction for campers and everyone loves the fact it's strictly 10 tents here maximum on a well sized field camp site - no caravans, no motor homes, no children, no pets, no groups, no loud music. Just peaceful camping. See you again! I'm off bat watching! Joy |

Thank you for your review I'm delighted you enjoyed the peace and quiet here on our small tidy site. Yes, quite right, I was flabbergasted recently on several mornings at the state I found the shower rooms in - any comment I made it was not directed specifically at anyone as I had no idea who had left the loo in such a revolting state. If it was overheard by someone in the loo behind a closed door or behind a corner out of my sight then it was clearly not directed or aimed at this particular camper then it is somewhat churlish for them to comment here. Far better and much kinder had they commented on how quickly I acted to remove others unnecessary mess! But, it does amplify the fact that I am on the site and on the spot to clean up other's revolting mess which sadly on one or two occasions recently has been too gross to describe! On such a small site most campers are respectful of the fact that others may come in straight away to use the loo after them etc. A quick brush of the bowl with the brush provided is not onerous. There are mops, sponges, cloths and sprays should anyone feel it would be nice to wipe down the sink after their use as those on planes are invited to do. Sadly we do get the occasional campers who think it normal to leave their detrius in the sink, the loo and all over the floor (and worse) without a thought for anyone else using the facilities after them. And clearly not a thought for who ever has to clean it up. We would hope that the sort of campers who choose to stay on my small friendly site would have a modicum of respect for their fellow campers. I personally clean and check the shower room on numerous occasions throughout the day, from 6am till 10pm - usually I catch any unpleasantness & detrius quickly - which on several occasions recently have left me quite revolted and such dirty campers are not wanted on my site. I hope this camper was reassured that I am a hands on owner who actually CARES that THEIR shower and loo facilities are kept in a clean and tidy manner for all to enjoy. What a shame that wasn't commented on. Far sooner I am on the spot and sort it out quickly during one of my numerous checks than leave it for others to have to come to me to complain about it. I hope my warning shot was passed on! I won't hesitate to voice my concerns so all campers can behave in a civilised way when using our facilities. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to remind everyone to think of others when using the facilities. Joy |

Delighted our campers enjoyed the quiet camping and showers. This adult and tent only site with just the 10 pitches is proving very popular amongst those who enjoy a quiet rural camping experience. No children, no groups, no pets, no loud music. A totally non commercial rural site with just me running it. Your kind comments are much appreciated. Joy |

Thank you for your lovely words at the end of the season, much appreciated.
Sadly some campers camp in September and wonder why it's cold and that it rained!
Clearly you are a seasoned camper and prepared whatever the weather!
So glad to end this seasons reviews on an upbeat note.
Cheers!
