- Peaceful family park on the edge of Owermoigne and Moreton villages
- Popular wildlife pond with geese and ducks
- Immaculate amenities, licensed shop and a launderette
‘See, that’s how good little ducklings do it,’ you can say hopefully to the kids as they watch the baby birds obediently waddle after mum around the park.
Sandyholme Holiday Park’s (fenced) wildlife pond with its flocks of geese and ducks is a big favourite with ducklings of all ages, as is the peaceful location, the chilled out atmosphere and the sounds of birds tweeting from the trees as you let all the stresses of everyday life roll away from you like water off a duck’s back…
Sandyholme is tucked away in a secluded location on the edge of the scenic west Dorset villages of Owermoigne and Moreton, surrounded by trees and with excellent amenities: clean as a whistle showers and toilets, a launderette, a licensed shop on site and wifi access across the whole park for those who simply must stay on the grid.
The ducklings will be quacking happily over the playground and games room, while the knowledgeable staff and tourist information at the park will help out with lashings of info on walks and things to do nearby for the whole family – museums, events, seaside towns and local family-friendly inns among many others.
Guests at Sandyholme can also use the facilities at fellow West Dorset Leisure Holidays site Highlands End Holiday Park 18 miles west for a small charge: take your pick from an indoor pool, sauna/steam room, tennis court or pitch and putt, before getting your beaks twitching at the meals in the family bar.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome on site.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can now make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children on one pitch.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.

From the east: Take the A35 from Bere Regis and after 3 miles turn south onto the B3390. After approximately 4 miles go over the railway and turn left onto Moreton Road. Sandyholme can be found after 2 miles on the right-hand side.
From the west: From the Dorchester bypass take the A352 to Broadmayne continue straight through Broadmayne for 4 miles. At the roundabout take the second exit, continue through the village and take the left hand turn onto Moreton Road. Sandyholme can be found on the left-hand side.
Go a-roamin’ to Dorchester’s Roman Amphitheatre or the Roman townhouse remains in the grounds of County Hall, get your toes wet or go fishing at seaside resorts Charmouth, Lyme Regis and West Bay, get energetic with easily accessible golfing, fishing, scuba diving and sailing, take in the views of Golden Cap and the island of Portland from Chesil Bank and West Bay, or just pack a picnic and explore Dorset’s World Heritage Jurassic Coast…there are walks and trails all around the countryside surrounding Sandyholme to find the perfect chill out spot.
The Lawrence Trail, following the story of writer and soldier TE Lawrence, starts at the Tank Museum in Bovington and winds through the nearby villages of Owermoigne and Moreton: chatter with the primates at Bovington’s Monkey World too, then have a mouth-watering Dorset munch at the tearooms in Morton’s old schoolhouse before wandering around Moreton Gardens.
Savvy shoppers should make a stroll around Bridport a top tick on the shopping list: this market town has some of the widest streets in England and has had an outdoor Saturday market since permish was granted by Liz the First way back in the sixteenth century; you can now double your chances of finding a bargain by browsing the market on Wednesdays too.
There are over a thousand listed buildings in Bridport for you to lug all your shopping around – try the eighteenth century town hall before rewarding all that historical virtue and wetting your whistle with the ale at the eighteenth century Palmers Brewery. Beaminster, Dorchester and Sherborne are good additional options for maxing out the credit cards with handcrafted goodies and shops to suit all tastes and budgets.
The seaside town of Weymouth is just one of many to spend a day or afternoon in, following in the watery steps of George III who came here fourteen times in the hope that a Weymouth dip would cure his bouts of insanity (it didn’t, but it did put Weymouth on the map as a top tourist destination).
Today, there are family attractions and events alongside the safe beach and picturesque harbour: after the Punch and Judy or bouncing on the trampolines, challenge the kids to make a sand sculpture to top those of Weymouth’s sand modeller, a family tradition in the town since the 1920s.
