General

  • Family-friendly park just outside Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast
  • Pools, bar, meals, takeaways, play areas and indoor play
  • Modern amenities including hot showers, launderette and food shop

There’s nothing fossilised about a stay at Newlands Holiday Park a stone’s throw away from the Jurassic Coast on the Devon/Dorset border, where the staff and facilities will crater to your every holiday need...

For example, this lush place has two separate play areas for the mini dinos, an in-house chef dishing up the best of local food, takeaway fish and chips using the freshest of the local catch, an indoor heated pool – and an outdoor one with waterslides and loungers so you can bask in the sun and wonder where the kids get all that energy…

More? There’s the nightly entertainment in the lounge and bar, the conservatory with picturesque patio for having a glass of wine and drinking in the uninterrupted Dorset views, games show Tuesdays, the indoor soft play area and Dino Dan's disco…Use family-run Newlands as a base for a Lyme Regis fossil hunting holiday or just lounge about on site; either way, epic times are guaranteed.

The 23-acre landscaped park has all the facilities you’d expect from a thoroughly modern site: food shop, internet access and clean up to date amenities including hot showers and a launderette. Half a mile from Newlands, the World Heritage village of Charmouth has shops, restaurants and pubs... and is also known for its hardy souls taking to the sea in fancy dress on Christmas Day.

Please note

Single-sex bookings of 5 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The indoor swimming pool is open between 08/03 and 04/11.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

All: access to the swimming pool is not included in the rate and is charged £2.00 per person per session.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 20/05 and 04/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The large pitches, club house, shop and pool. Very friendly staff.

    Disliked:

The fact you had to pay extra for the WiFi.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review Sharon, it's lovely to see you enjoyed your stay with us at Newlands. We have tried free WiFi in the past but the service/speed wasn't the best and it wasn't accessible throughout the Park.
We hope to see you again in the future!

Fantastic site, brilliant location for a walk into Charmouth or a bus ride to Lyme Regis
the showers were hot and clean, staff very helpful and the bar/shop facilities excellent. Will be back next year.

    Disliked:

Not the most private as the pitch was on open terracing, however as the site wasnt that busy it didnt matter, only real minus was the slight difficulty getting rid of motorhome tanks grey water, that said a very nice maintenance man lifted a drain for me. A more useable purpose made drain would be much better.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review, it's wonderful to see you enjoyed your stay with us and you have taken full advantage of the lovely location we are settled in and the facilities on site we have to offer.
I shall pass your feedback onto our grounds team regarding a purpose built drain.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Excellent site with clean facilities, friendly staff and level pitch 01/10/2018

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Ollie T. Confirmed

  • Liked:

The site was clean, pleasant and with plenty of activities to keep the children happy. We felt safe to allow them to adventure with really good facilities on site. The new Tow Bar and restaurant make over and options were incredible. This was my mother in laws first experience of camping and we could have asked for more :)

Excellent site with clean facilities, friendly staff and level pitches

Perfect location to visit locations of the area with great options to walk or drive.

    Disliked:

We would have liked to have had an open fire (accept and acknowledge the safety reasons why not - but it always makes a good camp if the safety measures can be provided?)

The pitch (pitch 10) wasn't as described in reception (there was another camper up to the mark) - wasn't a problem but it might be better if those pitches are fully marked out as the concept of using the marker as the middle isn't a good indicator of pitch boundaries / size - we loved a previous stay in blue field where we were able to camp in a layout to suit rather than on pitches - no a massive issue at all, just an observation!

Gutted that we had to pay for WiFi - had the weather had been worse we would have depended on connection for games and films so this would have been a bigger problem, but we got away with it because of the good weather.

From the manager...

Thank you for your detailed review Ollie, we are glad to hear you had a great stay with us and enjoyed your time on the Park and using our facilities. It's lovely to hear there is also a newly converted camper with you now as well- nothing better than family camping.
We appreciate all feedback we receive and i shall pass your comments on to our grounds & maintenance team regarding the open fires and marking out our pitches.

We look forward to seeing you again.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review Brian, we are located near the A35 which some noise can be heard from some of our touring pitches. We are more than happy to help our guests find a better suited pitch for them, whether this is nearer the amenities or a better size for their unit, you just need to let reception know.

We hope to see you again.

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely review, we are glad you enjoyed the scenery we are surround by- it is lovely! As we are based on a hill, allowing us to see such lovely sights that does come with the downfall it can be a little windy when the weather isn't great. Hopefully you were able to wrap up warm and still enjoy the view!

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections, guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified.

The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or swing off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club.

Mini fossil hunters will be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium.

Closer to Newland and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of mullet (not the haircut) at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
