Liked: Good facilities
Disliked: I booked to stay at Highlands End from 1st - 7th April. This was to celebrate my 50th birthday. On Thursday 04 April at 1900 hrs I returned to my motorhome to find the wind had ripped off the plastic cover on the sky light which left a square hole in the roof. My son is five years of age and is Autistic so of course I was very concerned as heavy rain was forecast. I spoke with site staff who directed me to the warden. I explained the situation and requested the use of a ladder and or some Gaffa tape. His reply’s to my requests: “It’s out of hours, I’m not insured” When I explained my son was autistic so sound sensory “don’t try and pull on my heart strings” When I sought clarification “I’m not going to help you tonight or tomorrow. I don’t need this, I’m having my dinner” As I result, I stayed up all night and then left the site at 0430 hrs the next morning as there was a break in the weather. It appears that the site does not have procedures in place to deal with any issues out of hours as they are not insured. As a parent of an autistic child, I constantly assess the environments I take him into. I chose to stay at Highlands End as it is ranked as one of the best sites in the Country. The facilities are good and the staff are friendly when you are spending money. Underneath the shine is a site that does not have any contingencies in place in case of an emergency. I am still angry at the response from the Warden. To be frank it is shocking.

From the manager: We most sincerely apologise to you and your family for the issues you experienced. This is not at all indicative of our normal response or standards; we are investigating this case as a matter of urgency, we take this matter very seriously indeed. As a 3-generation family business operating at Highlands End for over 50 years we certainly do have robust contingencies in place in case of emergency. We trust we can put matters right and that you can feel confident that any future visit would show our ongoing commitment to giving exemplary customer service.

Liked: Pitch was perfect and had lovely view of West Bay. Staff were very pleasant and helpful after all our van battery and solar panels malfunctioned. Called reception on day of departure and someone was there to help us within 10 minutes. Very grateful for the help as we know it would have been hours before AA would have arrived to help out and get us started.

Liked: We had a fabulous, peaceful and fun time at Highlands End! It was our first time campervanning, and I feel that we eased ourselves in gently by having clean, warm and quite luxurious facilities 30 seconds away from our pitch! The sea views were breathtaking, and we ambled over the headland in blazing sunshine to explore West Bay on our second day. The wind was wild on 2 of the nights, but that just added to the adventure! I must say, all the staff we came in contact with at Highlands End were friendly and super polite. Thank you to all for helping to make our stay so enjoyable ~ we’re already talking about coming back!
