General

  • One of the closest campsites to Bournemouth
  • Sociable atmosphere which respects guest's peace and quiet
  • Lots of water-based activities to do nearby

If your camping destination is Dorset-based, farm yourself out to the friendly folk at St Leonards Farm Caravan & Camping Park, which is an ideal base for exploring Bournemouth, Poole and the New Forest. There are sparkling loos, toasty hot water for showers and washing up, and well marked-out pitches – clearly these farm folk know what campers want. And canine campers are welcome too.

If you want to sizzle your own sausages, you can exchange gas cylinders on site and there are two major supermarkets within five minutes’ drive, or two pubs within a mile and a number of nearby restaurants if you’re feeling lazy/thirsty. St Leonards Farm is a sociable but quiet site and has a 'no noise after 11pm' policy – perfect if you’re getting up at the crack of dawn for some seaside exploring.

Would visit again. We enjoyed our stay. 21/08/2017

Lovely, quiet (in the daytime and evening) family site and despite there being lots of families the noise curfew at 10.30pm was adhered to. The site was quite busy at the time we visited but we found that there was adequate toilets and showers - which surprised me as only 6 showers but if you timed it right there was no queuing. We were opposite the park which was handy for our two children (was a negative to this see below). Despite it being a fairly large site the hedging of trees meant that it was divided up effectively to provide an element feeling more private and less busy.

    Disliked:

Only negatives - being opposite the park lots of children on there unsupervised which lead to some rather noisy children lots of screaming that continued for quite a length of time - even I a parent of two fairly young children and a teacher found it quite annoying after an hour of it!!

The access road to the site comes straight out on to a very busy A31, if I was visiting without my husband it would put me off the site as I would be nervous of pulling out as the cars travel very fast.

The road noise at night was very noticeable we were a distance from it but it was still audible. If you have trouble with sleeping - ear plugs recommended.

Horrendous welcome, rude woman on reception who thought it was ok to bad mouth my husband whilst I stood waiting. Unhelpful in general. Her attitude put a downer on an otherwise good trip. We won't return to this site.

Clean site with good amenities within easy reach of shops.

Family friendly atmosphere with plenty of areas for kids to play away from pitches. Ideal for families and mature couples requiring a base to explore the area.

    Friendly welcome on our arrival.

Enjoyed our stay and would recommend the site.

    Disliked:

Pitches close together and would benefit from being marked out as some campers encroached over their space allocated. Electric hook up tripped on several occasions although this was not the site owners fault but due to overload by inconsiderate neighbours using household appliances in volume.

Directions

We are located about 7 miles from Bournemouth and 4 miles west of Ringwood just off the A31. We are just opposite the Texaco petrol station at Pinehurst Road. Look out for our big blue sign in the farm fields on your left as you head towards Ferndown from Ringwood. The A31 links directly from the M27 and M3 making us very easy to drive to from London, Southampton and the Midlands via Oxford.

Local attractions

St Leonards Farm is one of the closest campsites to Bournemouth, with sandy beaches only seven miles away. There’s loads to do nearby if you’re feeling full of beans – try watersports such as windsurfing, sailing or surfing at Bournemouth’s artificial reef, or have at it with some go-karting, dry slope skiing, golf, fishing or horse-riding in the scenic surrounding countryside.

Feeling a bit tired after all that sporty exertion? Take a picnic to nearby Moors Valley Country Park, which has a golf course, cycling routes and outdoor play area, or have a family day out at a plethora of local attractions including Paultons Park, Marwell Zoo, Beaulieu Motor Museum and Wimborne Minster Model Town.

Kids will enjoy fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast, and if they’re disappointed by not finding a T-rex skeleton right there and then, you can take them along to the Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, then spoil them with a day out at Adventure Wonderland less than three miles from the park. The site is also an ideal stop over point for the Poole or Portsmouth cross channel ferries.
