Wooder's Camping: Looking towards the farm from the bottom of the field

General

  • Quiet family farm and wildlife haven on the edge of Wareham Forest
  • Families, couples and kids welcome on 'pick your own pitch' fields
  • Within 10 minutes' drive of Wareham and 20 from the Jurassic Coast

This Dorset site is aptly named: Wooder’s Camping is right on the edge of Wareham Forest for woodland holidays with plenty of routes to roam.

Families, ramblers, cyclists and dogs are all welcome here, on a friendly site close to the Jurassic Coast and just to the north of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Wareham town centre is within 10 minutes’ drive for shopping, cream teas and strolls or rowing trips along the River Frome; it’s the same distance to the famed Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre to pootle around with the primates.

Not that there’s any need to venture far for glimpses of animals: the site is in a wildlife haven home to bats, owls, songbirds and Sika deer, and is on a working farm with its own cows and two bulls as well as geese and cockerels in the paddock. Kids are welcome to explore if they're careful, and all guests can come along to meet the cows on request.

Once you’ve had a gander, build a campfire in the firepit available for a small fee (first-come, first-served basis) and settle down to see the stars in this area of low light pollution. Sacks of wood collected from the farmland are available to buy; for foodie supplies local village Bere Regis (five minutes’ drive away) has a convenience store, two pubs and a petrol station.

Amenities on site include a toilet, a hot shower and a washing-up area. When you arrive, follow the signs to the pitching field, pitch up and get unpacked: the owners will be along that evening to say hi.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, 05/09/2021.

It's a very large field so you have loads of space to pitch and can go wherever you like. Jez and Heidi are really friendly and helpful, and drove round to say hello and see if we wanted any more logs for our firepit each evening. Showers are hot, both they and the toilets are spotless. We did days out to Longleat, Lyme Regis and Lulworth Cove, all an hour's drive or less, but there's plenty to do for little ones just in the campsite, and there are nice walks in the woods that border it. Would absolutely recommend this place if you're a family, but saw couples and some groups of grown ups too. Coming from London we loved the big skies and watching the sun setting while have our evening beers with the campfire. Wonderful place!

Lots of choice for flat grassy pitches. Plenty of “portable” toilets and showers, didn’t have to queue for either. All facilities very clean. Thorough recycling system in place. Heidi, the owner, couldn’t have been more chatty and helpful.
An abundance of activities within minimal travelling time from the site.

    Disliked:

The website description is very accurate, provided you’ve read it there should be nothing to dislike.
