Ilfracombe harbour

General

  • Family-friendly and family-run site with walks down to Lee bay
  • Set on 27 peaceful acres a couple of miles from Woolacombe
  • Farm shop, tearoom and e-bike/bike hire: trails straight from the farm

Traditional Devon farm stays are the name of the game at family-owned and run Lee Meadow farm a couple of miles from the sands and surf of Woolacombe, set among 27 acres with woodland views on one site and Devon hills to the other, and with views of the Bristol Channel towards Wales.

There's a farm shop here too, selling free-range eggs from the farm's hens alongside stacks of products made fresh on site, and a site tearoom for cream teas before (and after) walks from the site down to Lee Bay through Fuschia Valley.

Easy walks and bike rides are easy to access straight from the farm, and the safe cycling of the former Ilfracombe Branch Line is just at the end of the farm lane. There's plenty of space on site too for kids to run about – or they could trot along to meet the Lee Valley piglets as well as lambs in the spring.

Facilities are well kept and include free hot showers, flushing toilets and washing-up sinks; a disabled shower and toilet facilities plus a baby changing area and a token-operated hairdryer. E-bike and cycle hire is available on site.

And finally, the two pubs within walking distance selling fine ales, cider and food are a fave with the locals – always a good sign for pubs…

Extremely friendly and site was perfect. Farm shop was a bonus and very useful. Situation is brilliant for Tarka Trail being only 1 minute off the trail and also great walk to the beautiful Lee Bay. Other bonus was there is 4G reception at the site.

    Disliked:

Very minor point - maybe needs a few hooks or a bench in the washrooms to hang or put things down on.

We both liked the location of the site , away from any traffic.
The size of the pitches gave us enough room for our large 5 man tent , with room at the side for our car.
Liked the fact that you could hire bikes & electric ones as well , which we did .
Just outside over a small bridge and your on a trail way , which was well kept.
The site had a cafe which seemed to be very popular with the locals , doing breakfast, cream teas , lunches . They also stock local products.
Everyone was very friendly & helpful .
The owners had dogs & cats around all very friendly especially the ginger cat lol.
we visited the local pub for food which was outstanding , they cooked our food to perfection.

    Disliked:

My only gripe was we couldn't get hot water in either the washing up area or the sinks.
The shower took awhile but the owner did say about it. I think the timer on the push button on the sink & shower could be longer. The sink I couldn't even get enough hot water in my hands to wash my face, as the push button would stop.
Apart from that we was happy 😊

From the manager...

so glad you enjoyed your stay .. hot water in the middle of the countryside takes a while to cone through only takes a couple of pushes ??

pitches not being marked out, advertised as 15 x 15mtr but we didnt have anywhere near that much space.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review and glad you liked our site … We say we are traditional camping ie non marked pitches .. I can see from your booking you travelled on the busiest weekend of the year with this in mind things can be a little busier than usual.. We allow at least 15m x 15 m for each pitch im not sure why you didn't use this much ? nice to see you would come again :-)

Good choice of non-electric pitches and being able to decide where you pitch, rather than being allocated.
    Friendly and welcoming staff.
    Well-stocked shop.
Good shower, toilet washing-up facilities (under cover!) and never had to queue despite staying over a bank-holiday weekend.
    Allowance of fire-pits and BBQs.
Short drive to lovely Woolacombe beach.
    Hire of bikes and ebikes.

    Disliked:

Policy of dogs needing to be on a leash at all times was not enforced - most campers are considerate and kept to this but not all sadly.
A little exposed and windy at night in adverse weather - people need to ensure they secure any flappy tents!

From the manager...

Glad you enjoyed your stay and liked our site … we do enforce the dogs on a lead at all times we are a working farm... but sadly cannot be everywhere at once if reported or seen off leads owners are corrected immediately? The joys of camping on the coast a little windy sometimes hopefully everyone secure their tents whatever the weather :-)

The small fishing villages of Clovelly, Lynton and Lynmouth are also nearby, as are the dozens of old villages, scenic coastal walks, moorland and rivers of Exmoor National Park, worth at least a couple of days for its 620 or so miles of footpaths and bridleways, its cycle paths, its climbing, sea fishing, canoeing and kayaking.
