What might you say to camping on a Devon farm only a couple of miles away from the beach, minutes from Paignton and Totnes, with views that might make you crumble? What about a site that produces its own scrumpy cider from 15 acres of on-site apple orchards among its 400 acres? Like the many returning guests of Broadleigh Farm Park, you might say it’s pretty sweet.
Facilities including showers, toilets, launderette and washing-up area are kept in apple-pie order: you’ll find free hairdryers too and there are disabled facilities and a parent and baby washroom.
Broadleigh is a working farm, so while dogs are welcome, please keep them on leads while on site or unless in the separate dog-walking field.
If driving makes you crabby, the nine acres of Broadleigh Farm Park are where to base yourself to see the sights of Devon: Paignton and Totnes are two and three miles away respectively; supplies – and pubs – in the village of Stoke Gabriel about fifteen minutes’ walk, and the activities and sights of Dartmoor within around half an hour’s drive. Miles of walks are available straight from the site, and for little pipspeaks, Pennywell Farm and Paignton Zoo are both within (short) driving distance.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
Large tents/caravans: check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit is suitable for the space you will be provided with.

From the north
At the end of the M5, take the A380 towards Torquay.
When you reach the ring road, turn right, signposted Brixham. After about 4 miles turn right at the traffic light, signposted Plymouth. In about a quarter of a mile, at the Parkers Arms (also named the Collaton Carvery), turn left, signposted Stoke Gabriel and you are nearly there. Pass 3 turnings on your left and then fork right by a large caravan site. We are the first farm on the left.
The Devon village of Stoke Gabriel is about a mile from the site and has a Sainsbury’s, pubs, a shop, a post office and gentle riverside ambles along the Dart to ancient village streets or the old apple orchard. Pick up some crabbing gear and head for the Stoke Gabriel quay to catch a few specimens; this is a well-known crabbing area and just the spot to teach the kids how to master the art.
If boats are your bag, hire a vessel to sail up the river to Totnes or catch the ferry downstream to Dittisham, opposite Agatha Christie’s old home and inspiration at the Greenway Estate – no need to keep your eyes peeled for somewhat spectacular river views. From here you can go on to Dartmouth, where the river releases to the sea, and stop off for an afternoon’s shopping or to see Dartmouth Castle, one of a pair of forts protecting the mouth of the Dart Estuary and part of a harbour cruise from Dartmouth to Kingswear. The 6.7 miles of the Dartmouth Steam Railway terminate here: hop on to go to the other terminus at Paignton for bars, restaurants, more shopping, Paington Zoo and two beaches, Paington and Preston Sands.
Safe and spotless beaches abound within a few minutes’ drive of Broadleigh, from the award-winning sands of Goodrington, the closest beach to the site, to the small bays and coves dotted all around this part of coast for rockpooling and more crabbing, to nearby Brixham and Torquay among other family-friendly sandy fare. If the weather’s a little damp, Goodrington’s Seashore Centre has free admission and info on the history of the 22-mile stretch of the English Riviera; if the sun has got his hat on, the pools and waterslides at Quaywest on Goodrington Sands make up the biggest outdoor waterpark in the country.
Dartmoor National Park is about 30 minutes away from Broadleigh: start off first at River Dart Country Park and the River Adventure Centre where kids have a pirate ship lake to oooh aaarr at as well as a toddlers’ playground, adventure playgrounds, zipwires and other sorts of hair-raising adventures. More adventures and activities are available all over the 368 square miles of Dartmoor all year round: make a start at one of the Dartmoor visitor centres at Princetown, Haytor or Postbridge.
Broadleigh lies roughly halfway between Plymouth and Exeter, both within about 40 minutes’ drive for city day trips, museums and access to the Jurassic Coast from Exeter.
