General

  • Relaxing park on the Devon/Cornwall border
  • Heated indoor pool, spa and therapy cabin
  • Regular hog roasts throughout the year

It’s a stonkingly safe bet that any site listed as having an ‘infrared therapy cabin’ is going to be one where you can relax and get away from it all.

Woodovis Park, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Devon/Cornwall border, has this in spades: relaxed but with Devon delights just on the doorstep, no road noise, beautiful beaches within easy reach, plenty of active options nearby, a heated indoor pool and spa on site, and, the topping on the Devonshire cake – fresh bread, croissants and pain au chocolate all baked daily for the on-site licensed shop.

Activities on site include archery, waterwalking, visits from international storyteller Clive PiG once a week during school holidays, and twice-weekly circus skills workshops in high season. A wood-chipped play area and games room is there for the small people, as well as a nature trail, outdoor table tennis and a pétanque court to ping about on.

Dogs will also have a barkingly good time here, as Woodovis is dog-friendly and has a dedicated dog walking area as well as Lower Meadow, the site's ‘specially for pups’ field where pooches can run off the lead. (There’s a dog wash area on site too, although perhaps tails won’t be wagging too much at that.)

Facilities at this safe, family-friendly and environmentally-friendly park include a free wifi zone in the games room and chargeable wifi available throughout, twinkingly clean loos and free hot showers, a parent and baby washroom, a launderette and – blessedly – a bath for soaks in blissful solitude. An additional individual toilet is in the Tamar View Field.

A traditional pub with good food is around half a mile’s walk away, but takeaway hog roast is available on site on Monday and Wednesday evenings throughout the year, serving local meat, fresh bread, and handmade sauces.

But back to that therapy cabin. The infrared rays here are used as part of a targeted deep heat treatment to warm the back’s blood vessels – soothe all your non-holiday stresses here before splashing about in the heated pool with the family or taking in a bit more relaxation in the spa room. Well, you can never have too much relaxing…

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The indoor swimming pool is open between 18/03 and 29/10.

Tent sizes: if your tent is larger than 7.5 x 4.5m then choose a super pitch. We will provide you with a protective under sheet to go under your tent and onto the gravel.

Clean and tidy site, with nice sized pitches, nice to have a Ball game area with table tennis table and bowles area. The swimming pool was a lovely addition, always clean and the water temperature was lovely.
The site is well situated for lots of attractions. its such a quite site, and we saw some beautiful star filled sky's.
The facilities were clean and the water was hot and plentiful. And the washing up facilities great.
The free half hour of Wifi was enough for checking in.

    Disliked:

The nearest toilets were at the top of the hill. (only a couple of mins walk) one at our end of the field would have been lovely.

The cost of the wifi was a bit expensive,

Fantastic site, immaculately clean. No queues for showers even though site was almost full. Shower block was always immaculately clean regardless of time of day. Showers were always lovely and hot. Well stocked little shop, orders taken daily for freshly baked bread, croissants etc. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Lovely pool, jacuzzi and sauna, only used it once but went at lunchtime and had the pool to ourselves. I would highly recommend this lovely site and would definitely revisit.

    Disliked:

We were sited in the Tamar field which was a bit of a walk to the shower block but there was however, a toilet situated halfway. I would say this site is an ideal base for walkers but if you prefer the beach, be prepared to travel. There is a pub 'the copper penny' nearby which serves food but, having read the trip adviser reviews, decided not to visit. First night had the fish and chips from a visiting mobile catering van. Quite disappointing as it comprised small chopped up pieces of battered fish and a few thin French fries which were very expensive.

From the manager...

The warm welcome and friendly helpful staff, the eco-friendly touches around the site, we loved the on-site bakery - the croissants and pain au chocolat were delicious! The kids enjoyed the story teller and we all enjoyed the circus skills workshops - we are going to keep practising our new tricks! The pool was lovely, the site was clean and tidy, the toilet blocks were gleaming and the showers were nicer than my shower at home! The games room came in handy in the rain. We bought a wi-fi package at the beginning of our stay which gave us a really good connection throughout. The info sheet we got on arrival had useful tips for finding supermarkets and parking in Tavistock - we particularly enjoyed browsing in the Pannier market. We were given a good tip for pub food - The Blacksmith's Arms in Lammerton (we'd never have found it on our own and it was fantastic). We also used the park's website to find a kayak hire place (Fowey River Hire) for an afternoons paddling.

    Disliked:

    Nothing - I wouldn't change a thing!

The people - the staff at the park were fantastic from minutes after making my booking I had a call to say there was an issue with the pitch I had booked and they moved me to a better pitch, when we arrived reception was quick, attentive and friendly. All our interactions were never too much trouble, my son even got a spin around the park in a buggy when he had climbed into it outside the shop.

The site is lovely and really well kept and the facilities are well kept and spotlessly clean all in all a great place to go. We can't wait to go back

Local attractions

First on your must-do list should be a trip to nearby Tavistock, market town and home of the cream tea; browse around the regular farmers’ markets to pick up the best Devonshire produce.

To walk all that food off, you’re only a short drive from Dartmoor with its walking, cycling and horse riding trails, or other active options including tree-surfing and canoeing are nearby.

Those for whom a holiday wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the beach will be in sandy heaven, with some of the best beaches in the country easily reachable by car: bounce around the rock pools at Bovisand, get sand between your toes at Seaton, or explore the several small beaches at Talland Bay.

For historical highlights, the National Trust’s Castle Drogo has gardens and a gorge-ous view over the Teign Gorge. Or have a go at family walks and bike rides at Plymbridge, a look at Sir Francis Drake’s former home Buckland Abbey, or a visit to Dartmoor’s Lydford Gorge, the deepest in the south west and with a waterfall 30 metres high.
