Site was superbly run with friendly staff, always there when needed!
Food was well priced at the restaurant, very dog friendly, though free ranging chickens ment trying to rugby tackle my springer as we opened the motorhome door! Gave the adjacent pitches some entertainment though.
Facilities were brilliant, showers clean, great pressure, laundrette etc.
The site is a real haven for wildlife, it is great sitting in your pitch, watching lots of species of birds close up.
As teachers, the site is really set up as a fun and educating site for youngsters, with the library having lots of wet weather items to keep them busy.
The links with local tourism are good, anyone staying here MUST visit Lynford Gorge, it is magical.
We had horrendous weather for four days, and the pitches drain superbly, and the site is designed to protect tents from the worst weather.

    Disliked:

Nothing about the site however three advisory points.

This site backs onto the moors, which is brilliant for dog walking, however the moors are full of sheep, cattle and ponies, so if your dog shows aggression to these, it will be shot by the local farmers. Just a warning to keep it on a lead if it can't be trusted.

Don't follow 'google maps' driving a motorhome in! It took us onto a one way track with no passing points and caused problems. Come in via the A-road to Tavistock, then follow the Princetown sign.

Only concern I had at the site, there was no warning of the local hunt passing by the site. There needs to be some type of board to be shown at the rear gate, having your dog out with a full hunt passing is dangerous. I live in a hunt area, and highly charged hounds will attack other dogs, so I think there needs to be a little more communication on this. But this was the only thing I could think of!

Directions

From Tavistock, take the B3357 road to Princetown/Two Bridges. After approximately two miles, look for a right-hand turn at a white cottage, and follow our brown tourist signs. Follow the lane and you will shortly go over a cattle grid - up the hill, turn left at the sign and again left at the next junction. We are along the laneway on the right-hand side. Go over our cattle grid and follow the road to the right up the hill to a stop sign.

Do not use satnav if you are towing or in a large vehicle!

Local attractions

Holidaymakers can amble or pedal straight onto the moors from here, and it only takes a few minutes to scramble to the summit of Pew Tor, which enjoys views for miles around.

As well as the wealth of hiking and biking routes in the area, there are centres for horse riding, canoeing and climbing on Dartmoor, to help visitors make the most of the spectacular landscapes. If you’re feeling brave, you can even go wild swimming...although you may prefer to hop over the border to Cornwall’s beautiful beaches to go swimming or surfing.

Ten minutes from Langstone Manor is the market town of Tavistock, where there are regular farmers markets, a cinema and an indoor swimming pool (with water slides and children’s pool).

For National Trustees, the imposing granite crenellations of Castle Drogo are worth a visit; this Lutyens-designed castle was the last ever built in England, and has lovely gardens and a picturesque outlook over the Teign Gorge. The dramatic waterfalls and ancient woodlands of Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in the South West) are not to be missed either, as long as you don’t mind a bit of strenuous walking, or getting your feet wet.

Rainy day suggestions include Plymouth, home to the UK’s biggest aquarium, or an exit to Exeter, a charming cathedral city bristling with shops and things to do.

Must see

  • Dartmoor Zoological Park (10.2 miles)
  • National Marine Aquarium (12.5 miles)
  • Buckfast Abbey (14.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Buckland Abbey (4.9 miles)
  • Lydford Gorge (6.8 miles)
