General

  • On the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park
  • Easy access to the moors via an easy off-road path
  • Close to the Granite Way: cycle hire within 100 yards

Easy access to Dartmoor, Devon, Cornwall, moorland walks, close to the A30, Lydford Gorge, the Granite Way and with a pub serving food right next door: the location of rocks.

A small, friendly and family-run site, Bundu is on the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park near Okehampton, and a nifty touring base for Devon and Cornwall north and south. National Cycle Route 27 the Granite Way is adjacent to the site; if you haven't brought your own wheels, bike hire is available within 100 yards. The moors are within walking distance via an easy off-road path.

Bundu has a barbecue area and a small shop selling provisions and charcoal; newspapers are available here too if you order them the day before. There's also an amenities block with toilets, showers and disabled facilities, all heated in winter, as well as a laundry room and a washing-up area.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Quick admission, spacious pitch (grass with electric hook-up), plenty of bins (recyclables & waste) & water taps, tidy site, very good showers & washing facilities, easy access to Granite Way through gate on site for walking or cycling, dog friendly, central location for north or south coast.

    Disliked:

Grey water & chemical toilet drain at end of someone's pitch. Minor dislike - Wifi only available near office not at pitch.

A lovely small run site. We stayed in a 3 room Airbeam tent, which was very spacious and everything we could need was included. The main toilets were a short walk but this caused us no problems. There was a small porta loo at the opposite end of the field which was basic but did the job! The showers were hot and clean. The whole site was clean and well cared for. There was a slight noise from the road, but considering how close it was that had to be expected. Plenty of placed to eat nearby. Look forward to the pub next to the site opening as that will be great. Finally being abe to get wifi and a mobile signal was a real bonus. A massive thankyou to the owners for running a lovely site. We will be back

The welcome was lovely and everything was explained well. Was fab just turning up and not having to pitch tent! Very spacious and comfy.
Toilets/showers v clean and not busy!
Lovely walks along disused railway line up to reservoir and viaduct.

    Disliked:

Noise from A30 - of course not fault of campsite but was v noisy as it was a windy and rainy day. Would be fine in a motor home or caravan I should think.

    Very clean and tidy

    Disliked:

Facilities were poor, toilet had a small sink for washing and cleaning teeth/shaving etc and no mirror, only 2 toilets, had to queue most of the time.
There may have been more facilities elsewhere but I didn't see them!
Didn't see anywhere to empty chemical loo or waste water.

From the manager...

I am sorry you were disappointed with the facilities.
There are two toilets but also 2 urinals. In the same area as the hand washing basin are three large sinks for shaving etc. with mirrors above. Also 3 large showers.
If the toilets are busy next door is a disabled family room with shower, toilet and basin that is also open for use.

The chemical waste is well signed in the main road area as is the grey water drain which is a drop down grid and quite evident.

It is most unusual to have to queue except the very occasional Friday night when we are absolutely full.

Local attractions

Nearby Lydford Gorge, the valley carved into hard Dartmoor rock, is the deepest gorge in England's southwest and a popular walking pick throughout the year for its 100-foot high White Lady waterfall and the Devils Cauldron whirlpools. Several walks are around here; pick up a National Trust leaflet at the site for details on routes.

Heaps more outdoorsy pursuits are easily found in the Bundu Camping and Caravan Park surrounds, like the hiking trails and horse riding of Dartmoor, golfing and fishing in the nearby countryside, and surfing and sunbathing north of the site at Bude and Widemouth Bay.

The old tannery town and Francis Drake's birthplace of Tavistock within a short drive is an award-winning option for shopping, at its Pannier Market on Fridays, regular events like antique and craft fairs, and the farmers' market fortnightly in the Square, voted the best in the southwest.

More history is all around at places like Plymouth, where you can take the crew on a boat trip to see the navy ships in dock; Princetown, with its famed prison and museum; the old river port Morwellham Quay, and historic houses like 700 year old Buckland Abbey near Yelverton and the early twentieth century country house Castle Drogo, near Drewsteignton.
