Appledore Park

Come and meet Spooky and Fester… These two clever pooches, along with resident owners Tim and Rebecca, run the newly opened Appledore Park two miles from Okehampton near the north Devon coast, where you’ll also find over 4500 newly planted trees and hedges (so far), spankingly clean facilities and so many little extra touches we wonder if Tim and Rebecca (and Spooky and Fester) ran campsites in a previous life: ‘awesome’, ‘top notch’ and ‘knocked our socks off’ are just a few of the accolades Appledore has already received from grateful guests.

Tim, Rebecca and the canine team have eight acres of campsite land at Appledore, all with sweet views of the Devon countryside and the park’s surrounding farmland, and landscaped to hold 40 spacious grass or hardstanding pitches with 16-amp electric hook-up. Drinking water is at each bollard on site.

If you’re bringing your tent, a separate grass area has been set aside just for canvas campers, and if you’re arriving late, there’s a special late arrivals area with hook-up and water so you can get settled quickly (cuppa). To this smart idea the team have added free wifi throughout the park, good digital TV reception, centrally located waste and recycling points, dishwashing and vegetable preparation area, and an information room with mobile charging points and stacks of info on what to see and do in the surrounding area. The shower and loo block has underfloor heating, private cubicles and an accessible area for disabled guests.

Up to three well-behaved pooches with well-behaved owners are allowed per pitch, and a dedicated and fenced dog walking area has been set aside among the tree plantation. Once you’re ready for walkies off site, there are plenty of opps to head into the surrounding countryside, or leave the car behind and take the 318 bus that stops at the end of the park’s lane.

Finally, fancy some fishing? Appledore Park has its own coarse fishing lake for guests and you can also cast off from the quay at Appledore village, take a boat out to the sea (the coast is around 30 miles from the site) or try your luck landing salmon or trout on the River Torridge.
