- Rural family-run campsite over 23 acres
- In the North Devon World Biosphere Reserve
- Pool, sun terrace, putting green and bar with verandah
The site is located in north Devon in the grounds of a seventeenth century manor house. Part open and part woodland, it is in its own cloistered valley and with direct access to the walking and pedalling meanders of the Tarka Trail.
Smythan Manor is a rural and family-run campsite over 23 acres with a lot of wildlife and ponds to wander around, all part of the North Devon World Biosphere Reserve in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
An outdoor solar-heated pool with sun terrace is on site to swim or bask in the sun upon. There's also a putting green and a bar with a verandah from which to watch the Devon sun set.
There's plenty of room for running about and play games (if you’ve forgotten a football/cricket kit at home for evening games, ask at the site reception and they’ll see you sorted). A small play area is on site for children, next to the indoor games room with air hockey and foosball tables, table tennis and pool (another pool table, for the adults only, is available in the bar).
Guests have access to the heated amenities block with free hot water, baby changing area, easy-access facilities, a small shop, freezer for ice blocks, dishwashing area and a launderette with coin-operated washing machines and tumble dryers alongside ironing facilities. Dogs are welcome on site on all pitches apart from the camping pods.
Smytham Manor is just a mile from the gardens at RHS Rosemoor and an accessible drive from the wilds of both Dartmoor and Exmoor. A day at the north Devon coast, including the beaches of Westward Ho!, Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay, is around nine to 15 miles from the site.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
Large tents/caravans: check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit is suitable for the space you will be provided with.

More walks, bike rides, climbing, fishing and all sorts of outdoor activities are easily accessible around Smytham Manor. You can learn to surf at north Devon beaches, enjoy cantering or mountain biking around Dartmoor and Exmoor. Wildlife is rife in these parts: the North Devon Biosphere was one of the first six UNESCO biosphere sites designated in the UK and covers an area from the heights of Dartmoor and Exmoor down via the sea to Lundy Island.
Nature of a different sort can be seen at Bideford’s famed and decidedly individual The Big Sheep, voted Devon’s best large attraction for 2013—14 and one of dozens of days out in Devon suitable for the kids: take the family along also to the Milky Way Adventure Park, also in Bideford or to the clay shooting and zorb balling of Barnstaple’s Southdown Adventure Park.
Plant lovers should visit the 65 acres of RHS Rosemoor a mile from the manor and Hartland Abbey and Gardens at Bideford, a twelfth century abbey with restored woodland gardens.
Also at Bideford, the mix of formal gardens, kitchen gardens and woodland at Tapeley Park and Gardens make for a restful afternoon out; don't miss a trip to Cheristow Lavender Farm and Gnome World, home to 250 species of wild flowers/plants and over a thousand gnomes.
