General
- Scenic adults-only dog-friendly site in Dartmoor National Park
- Haven for hikers and bikers, 20 minutes from Exeter city centre
- On-site shop, information centre and secure off-lead dog area
Escape from messy desks, busy inboxes and fume-filled commutes with a peaceful fresh-air stay among grownups only at Barley Meadow Touring Park, a dog-friendly site under five minutes’ drive from the Devon village of Crockernwell.
As it's in Dartmoor National Park, this is a top spot for hikers and bikers with a yen for exploring far-off places: the 117-mile Two Moors Way (which stretches from Ivybridge to Lynmouth) passes 10 minutes’ walk from the site, and National Cycle Route 27 and the Granite Way walking trail can be joined 15 minutes’ drive away in Okehampton. Closer to home, you can stroll next door to the farm shop to select goodies for your dinner.
There’s plenty more to investigate around splendid Dartmoor, but of course… but not before kicking back for a bit on site… Stock up on snacks in the on-site shop (open subject to demand) while letting canine chums run off-leash in the dog area, or plan outings and pick up ideas for local walks, activities and visits in the little information centre.
All sound a bit too rural? Never fear, as the site’s central and easy to reach: it’s just off the A30, and there’s a bus stop right outside the site entrance for trips to Exeter and Bude. Eco-friendly drivers can charge their electric vehicles using the EV point on site too.

Devoting a few days to rambling explores of Dartmoor National Park is a must hereabouts, with plenty of stunningly scenic spots to include in itineraries. Start with the nearby Teign Valley and the can’t-miss Lydford Gorge (the deepest gorge in south-west England) – don’t forget a camera to snap some shots of the spectacular White Lady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool.
There are more ways to explore Dartmoor National Park than on foot or by bike too: adrenaline junkies can try out whitewater kayaking or canoeing along the River Dart, or head into Okehampton to sign up for scrambling through gorges.
History buffs are well served around these parts too: jaunts into Exeter come with possible pitstops at the city’s famed cathedral, medieval guildhall and Tudor-built House that Moved (that one deserves a quick internet search), while rural travels lead to stately manors including Powderham Castle, Castle Drogo, Killerton House, and Buckland and Buckfast abbeys, all within an hour's drive.
Poke around England’s last working water-powered forge at Finch Foundry and visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life near Okehampton, or step back into the present day with some kid-friendly fun at Crealy Adventure Park or Diggerland Devon, both around half an hour from the site.

Thank you for your feedback following your 4 night stay with us on a non-electric grass pitch in a tent.
We are devastated you did not appear to enjoy your time here - we encourage guests to bring any issues to our attention while you are with us so that we can have the opportunity to resolve them.
In response to some of your dislikes:
-We certainly do not pitch people too close together, we exceed all pitch spacing enforced on us by the local authority and explain pitching to campers on arrival to maintain free space.
-We have various grass pitch sizes from 8Mx8M to over 20Mx20M and would therefore strongly disagree they are too small. Pitch sizes are quoted when you booked so this should not have come as a surprise to you.
-We do not allow groups let alone LARGE groups per our T&C's - we are not sure what left you that impression?
-We are very much a "peace and quiet" site, at time of writing this reply nearly 90% of 883 reviews specifically describing us as 'peaceful'
-We meet the required number of WC/showers etc enforced on us by the local authority.
Unfortunately it appears some close neighbouring campers have tainted your experience with us which we are very sorry about and can only assist in such circumstances if we are told about it and given the opportunity to resolve it.
Best wishes from us all at Barley Meadow
