Everything! As first time campers we were greeted by the enthusiastic Richard from Swindon who showed us to our pitch and made us feel very welcome. Pitches were in excellent condition with drinking water close by and the shower block and toilet facilities were also very well kept. Other guests were very respectful of the site rules and generally the site seemed well managed. Location was excellent for exploring the local area. Will book a place here again!

Excellent facilities kept spotlessly clean, the site is quiet and well kept, with absolutely loads of space to set up on it also benefits from it location a 10 minute walk from Dawlish Warren with lovely beaches, shops and several nice pubs and places to eat.
If you want to venture a little further afield the lovely town of Dawlish home of the Black Swans, nice tea rooms plenty of shops and a train station with trains running along the coastal rail line, is a 10minute drive or a short bus ride from the stop just outside the camp entrance or for the fittest amongst us a beautiful walk along the coastal path, where not only do you see plenty of views of the beach and out to sea but also the trains running past almost close enough to touch and of course Loads of wildlife, on one walk we watched a hawk hovering just above us as well as many other birds and a couple of rabbits took photos of sail boats, coasters and fishing boats.
This site is also handy for Teighnmouth and all the seaside towns of Torbay, I can't recommend it highly enough it is a first class site in a first class location.

    Disliked:

Not one thing for us but if you wanted more noise and a clubhouse on site it might not suit you.

Local attractions

Leadstone Camping's location makes it easy to get to most of Devon's attractions and it's simple to get from the site to wherever takes your fancy. Roads are relatively quiet for most of the year apart from in high season.

Dawlish Warren is a top place to be in Devon, partly for its safe clean beach and partly for its sand dunes leading onto 500-acre Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve, a hugely popular spot with birdwatchers and botanists.

On foot, walk the half mile to the Warren (it's a safe stroll and suitable for prams) or to the South West Coast Path within 10 minutes; it's also half a mile to the Exe Cycle Trail or the circular six-mile Dawlish Discovery Walk.

A mile away is the Exe estuary – another top local spot and a hit for fishing, hiking, biking and birdwatching – and the town of Dawlish itself is a mile and a half away: look out for the famous black swans. Also nearby is the harbour and two good pubs at Cockwood, two and a half miles away, and golf at Starcross before taking the ferry from here to Exmouth.

Shaldon, seven miles away, has another golf course and can be reached by ferry from the busy resort of Teignmouth.

For towns, take off to Exminster (nine miles; more golf), Torquay (10 miles), Newton Abbot (11 miles; racecourse and ancient market), Exeter (13 miles) and Paignton (13 miles; take the steam railway from here to Kingswear and Dartmouth).

Must see

  • Crealy Great Adventure Park (8.0 miles)
  • Exeter Cathedral - Church of Saint Peter (9.6 miles)
  • Living Coasts (9.9 miles)

National Trust

  • A la Ronde (3.9 miles)
  • Compton Castle (10.6 miles)
