Great base to explore the area, but needs some serious modernisation.03/08/2020

    - Easy access to Dawlish/Dawlish Warren.
    - Shaded pitch.
    - Water supply for each pitch was great and saved us having to carry water across the site.
    - Clean toilets.

    Disliked:

    - The showers were quite possibly the worst showers we have ever used. They were either freezing cold with good pressure, or hot but the water literally dribbled down the wall. I have no issue with paying 20p for a shower, but I would expect them to be up to scratch and clean (which they weren’t!).
    - Unisex showers were a bit intimidating for my teenage sister, who didn’t feel comfortable showering while there were groups of older men using the showers.
    - WiFi was AWFUL and did not work for our entire stay, I had to ask for a refund.
    - There was an occasional smell of sewage.
    - The road outside could be noisy at times.
    - The site had some outdated rules (no TV after 10.30pm or before 8am)...I can understand loud music, but banning people from watching TV after a certain time seems a bit extreme.
    - We felt that the site needed some updates, particularly the WiFi service and shower block, which will prevent us staying again in the future.

Very well laidout pitches. Within easy walking distance to the beach, shops and take aways. Everything on-site was clearly signposted. The toilets and showers were modern and very clean. There was a bus stop directly outside the campsite and a train station 10 mins walk away. Checking out was at midday, so not too early.

    Disliked:

    Nothing.

Very clean and quiet, well organised. The staff couldn't be more helpful and understanding.
I initially arrived on my own and spent the first few days walking to Dawlish and Dawlish Warren. After a few days I was joined by my older daughter (28) & her partner, they were very impressed to.

I was very impressed with their COVID arrangements. Very very clean facilities, one way systems, hand sanitiser etc.

This site is ideally situated for easy walks to the local attractions as well as in ideal base for exploring further.
I will definitely be going back.

We had a lovely time at this camp site. The staff were very helpful, and the site was spotless. The other people enjoying the site were also all very friendly. My only advice if you are taking a camper van, is also take a car to get around.

This was our first trip away in our V Old VW T2. But even though we had bikes. We could have done with a second Car.

Shops are quite close, so can walk to them. Public transport is also close to the camp site, and offers a good service.

    Disliked:

Nothing I disliked with the camp site.

Directions

Travelling by car
Leave the M5 motorway at Junction 30 (Exeter) and take the signposted road A379 to Dawlish. As you approach Dawlish (approximately 11 miles), turn left on the brow of the hill onto Warren Road, signposted Dawlish Warren. The site is half a mile on the right.

Satnav users: as you approach Dawlish from Exeter, do not use Week Lane as it is very narrow. Stay on the A379 and turn left into Warren Road just over the crest, Leadstone Camping is half a mile on the right.

Travelling by coach/bus
Exeter is the nearest coach station, then change onto the local Stagecoach service No 2 to Dawlish and change at Warren Road/ Marine Garage for the No 22 into Dawlish Warren (10 minutes' walk). Ask for Leadstone Camping. The stop is at the site entrance.

Travelling by train
Dawlish Warren is the closest station (about 10 minutes' walk) or take any bus heading to Dawlish, and ask for Leadstone Camping. Dawlish town station is well served by taxis and, of course, the bus.

Walking the coastal path
The site is 10 minutes' walk from the coast path at Dawlish Warren.

Local attractions

Leadstone Camping's location makes it easy to get to most of Devon's attractions and it's simple to get from the site to wherever takes your fancy. Roads are relatively quiet for most of the year apart from in high season.

Dawlish Warren is a top place to be in Devon, partly for its safe clean beach and partly for its sand dunes leading onto 500-acre Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve, a hugely popular spot with birdwatchers and botanists.

On foot, walk the half mile to the Warren (it's a safe stroll and suitable for prams) or to the South West Coast Path within 10 minutes; it's also half a mile to the Exe Cycle Trail or the circular six-mile Dawlish Discovery Walk.

A mile away is the Exe estuary – another top local spot and a hit for fishing, hiking, biking and birdwatching – and the town of Dawlish itself is a mile and a half away: look out for the famous black swans. Also nearby is the harbour and two good pubs at Cockwood, two and a half miles away, and golf at Starcross before taking the ferry from here to Exmouth.

Shaldon, seven miles away, has another golf course and can be reached by ferry from the busy resort of Teignmouth.

For towns, take off to Exminster (nine miles; more golf), Torquay (10 miles), Newton Abbot (11 miles; racecourse and ancient market), Exeter (13 miles) and Paignton (13 miles; take the steam railway from here to Kingswear and Dartmouth).

Must see

  • Crealy Great Adventure Park (8.0 miles)
  • Exeter Cathedral - Church of Saint Peter (9.6 miles)
  • Living Coasts (9.9 miles)

National Trust

  • A la Ronde (3.9 miles)
  • Compton Castle (10.6 miles)
