We really enjoyed our 14 night stay at Leadstone Campsite. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We had a catastrophe when one of the airbeams of our awning developed a leak from around the valve. After contacting the supplier of the awning, a new airbeam was dispatched and delivered to the campsite the next day. We would not have thought of getting it delivered straight to the campsite, however it was the staff that made the suggestion. We were grateful to them for allowing us to do this as it as it saved us!
The facilities were cleaned throughout the day and even late night/ early hours of the morning. I used the laundry which was fine and we use the washing up facilities which had plenty of hot water and were always clean.
The location of the campsite was perfect as we used the train at Dawlish Warren many times to visit Teignmouth, Plymouth, Newton Abbott, Torquay, Paignton, Totnes, Exeter and Exmouth. We also took our bicycles and used the national cycle route number 2 which was lovely. We took the ferry from Starcross over to Exmouth on 2 occasions.
All in all one of the best holidays we have had in th UK.

    Disliked:

There is a rule to keep 1 metre away from the pitch boundary. Not all campers stuck to this and so our neighbour was right on top of us.

Lovely campsite in a beautiful area. Great layout with well organised, and good sized pitches. Loved the open spaces where children and families can play games together.
very friendly team and good facilities which were cleaned regularly.
Local transport on the doorstep, and a short walk away from the beach resort, shops and restaurants, but far enough away to still be a peaceful and quiet site.

We really enjoyed the site for our first time visiting the area, the close facilities that were on offer 24/7. The reliability of change for the showers and being able to self clean in the heat of the summer where at times as anyone can imagine it can get slightly grubby although that's what comes with camping! The staff were very attentive and friendly and we all felt at home.

As the site was fully booked it showed how popular the hidden gem was! I would definitely recommend this for any family who enjoys camping! There is always something to do as the town which offers numerous options is close by with children's activities and delicious ice cream! The Wifi isn't great but then your in a field so you don't expect it to be like what you have at home.

Thank you for a perfect break away! :)

    Dog friendly
Hedges and trees that give some shelter from the wind
    Good phone signal
Not far from beaches, nature reserve, seaside entertainment and town
Regular bus service to town and beach
    Not expensive
Lots of kids having fun playing games (ball games, tag, bikes etc) till late, and making friends

    Disliked:

    Slightly sloping pitches
Some noise from the bands that played at the other campsite (depends on your taste in music :))
Noisy birds at sunrise (seagulls, crows), but that cannot be helped

Directions

Travelling by car
Leave the M5 motorway at Junction 30 (Exeter) and take the signposted road A379 to Dawlish. As you approach Dawlish (approximately 11 miles), turn left on the brow of the hill onto Warren Road, signposted Dawlish Warren. The site is half a mile on the right.

Satnav users: as you approach Dawlish from Exeter, do not use Week Lane as it is very narrow. Stay on the A379 and turn left into Warren Road just over the crest, Leadstone Camping is half a mile on the right.

Travelling by coach/bus
Exeter is the nearest coach station, then change onto the local Stagecoach service No 2 to Dawlish and change at Warren Road/ Marine Garage for the No 22 into Dawlish Warren (10 minutes' walk). Ask for Leadstone Camping. The stop is at the site entrance.

Travelling by train
Dawlish Warren is the closest station (about 10 minutes' walk) or take any bus heading to Dawlish, and ask for Leadstone Camping. Dawlish town station is well served by taxis and, of course, the bus.

Walking the coastal path
The site is 10 minutes' walk from the coast path at Dawlish Warren.

Local attractions

Leadstone Camping's location makes it easy to get to most of Devon's attractions and it's simple to get from the site to wherever takes your fancy. Roads are relatively quiet for most of the year apart from in high season.

Dawlish Warren is a top place to be in Devon, partly for its safe clean beach and partly for its sand dunes leading onto 500-acre Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve, a hugely popular spot with birdwatchers and botanists.

On foot, walk the half mile to the Warren (it's a safe stroll and suitable for prams) or to the South West Coast Path within 10 minutes; it's also half a mile to the Exe Cycle Trail or the circular six-mile Dawlish Discovery Walk.

A mile away is the Exe estuary – another top local spot and a hit for fishing, hiking, biking and birdwatching – and the town of Dawlish itself is a mile and a half away: look out for the famous black swans. Also nearby is the harbour and two good pubs at Cockwood, two and a half miles away, and golf at Starcross before taking the ferry from here to Exmouth.

Shaldon, seven miles away, has another golf course and can be reached by ferry from the busy resort of Teignmouth.

For towns, take off to Exminster (nine miles; more golf), Torquay (10 miles), Newton Abbot (11 miles; racecourse and ancient market), Exeter (13 miles) and Paignton (13 miles; take the steam railway from here to Kingswear and Dartmouth).

Must see

  • Crealy Great Adventure Park (8.0 miles)
  • Exeter Cathedral - Church of Saint Peter (9.6 miles)
  • Living Coasts (9.9 miles)

National Trust

  • A la Ronde (3.9 miles)
  • Compton Castle (10.6 miles)
