General

  • Peaceful Blackdown Hills site with two fishing lakes
  • 15 minutes from Taunton and 30 from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast
  • In a walkers' paradise: free maps of local trails available on site

This peaceful little site may take its name from the monarch’s honey wine, but these days it’s the food in the area that’s fit for a king: about 20 minutes' walk from the site is the the Half Moon, serving fresh and traditional pub food with side order views over the Culm Valley

Kingsmead Centre is excellent territorytoo for ramblers, cyclists and equestrians, with free maps for all the nearby trails available on site – a local recommendation is the longer-distance Neroche Herepath.

In a wooded vale in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Kingsmead also has two coarse fishing lakes which are exclusively reserved for guests’ use, and is home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife.

The shower and toilet facilities are simple and clean, with no shortage of free hot water. Well-behaved pets are welcome on site.

Location of site and secluded safe area, great.
Plenty of room in the toilets/showers.
    Price was fair for area.

    Disliked:

    Public foot path through site.
Tents sometimes pitched too close and long electric leads could be a potential hazard. Some noisy neighbors with dogs barking!

Excellent site brilliant for families 15/08/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Steph M. Mobile phone icon Confirmed

  • Liked:

The site has a lovely mix of grass areas as well as woodland areas for camping, lovely to take a walk around the site with lots of trails through the woods and around the lakes. The staff are very friendly and the little shop sells very cheap wood and kindling to make fires and you can even rent a fire pit if needed. The toilet and shower block was cleaned regularly through the day and the washing up area was lovely and clean.

    Disliked:

Not really a problem but the pitches are unmarked so on the first night we had lots of room around our pitch but by the second night as it got busier our pitch became a lot smaller as neighbouring tents got quite close!

nice welcome on arrival, pretty site with plenty of level space for tent and car, not over crowded, so you had your own little private space, very peaceful. a short walk to the very new and spotlessly clean showers and toilets. and none of the prison camp style of some of the big club sites

Natural laid back clean happy site 13/08/2017

The site was so natural and beautiful- very remote and the toilets, showers and washing facilities are by far the best we've visited. Clean - well lit with lots of finishing touches - we hired a fire pit and then went to gather our own wood! Great fun!! Thank u for a lovely stay - the unlevel pitch bring my only negative to our stay.

    Disliked:

The site is by no means flat - our tent required a flat pitch so we pitched for a week twisted and everything on a slope. After a few days rain the section for camping became quite waterlogged so everyone bunched together around one small side which wasn't that bad but after paying a higher price for a larger tent parking our car by our tent wasn't possible - as we returned to a tent pitched where we parked.

Due to bad weather could not access wifi for 3 days - made maps for sat nav on phone a little stressful.

May I add -- That's not the sites fault - the weather is the weather! And a natural site like this does not need spoiling by installing drainage or pitch lining.. But a point to be aware of.
