General

  • Peaceful Blackdown Hills site with two fishing lakes
  • 15 minutes from Taunton and 30 from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast
  • In a walkers' paradise: free maps of local trails available on site

This peaceful little site may take its name from the monarch’s honey wine, but these days it’s the food in the area that’s fit for a king: about 20 minutes' walk from the site is the the Half Moon, serving fresh and traditional pub food with side order views over the Culm Valley

Kingsmead Centre is excellent territorytoo for ramblers, cyclists and equestrians, with free maps for all the nearby trails available on site – a local recommendation is the longer-distance Neroche Herepath.

In a wooded vale in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), Kingsmead also has two coarse fishing lakes which are exclusively reserved for guests’ use, and is home to a wide variety of birds and other wildlife.

The shower and toilet facilities are simple and clean, with no shortage of free hot water. Well-behaved pets are welcome on site.

we have just come back from staying in the bell tent. it was lovely, on cold night you could put the log burner on and on warmer nights you can sit outside on the bench overlooking the pond. we can't wait to go back.

    Disliked:

We stayed in the woodland pitch, it was a good size, quiet and clean. Nice fire pit and clean bathrooms.

    Disliked:

Needed maybe woodbark on the pathways into wood? It rained a lot while we were there and the paths were very slippery and muddy.

Really loved the layout of this park. Has inspired us to look into a similar thing when we return to NZ. Such a relaxing feel to the place with the adjoining walks and lakes. The caravan was comfortable and clean. The onsite wood fired pizzas and available fire pits were brilliant. Would love to come back some day and stay in the yurt or bell tent.

    Disliked:

Didn't dislike anything. the WIFI was really slow so made it difficult to plan our daily excursions.

We had a wonderful stay at Kingsmead Centre Camping and would definitely recommend to others. We hope to stay here again as there's so much to see in the surrounding wilderness. We had one of the forest pitches which was surrounded with wild flower and near the lake.
The staff were friendly and helpful.

Lovely peaceful campsite. Beautiful fishing lakes. We had a great pizza night cooked outside and an open air movie for the kids which they loved. The owners are very helpful and friendly.

    Disliked:

The static caravan was very basic and rooms smelt of damp especially in the room that our 10 month old was sleeping in. The statics clearly need a bit of money spending on them as everything is dated E.g. rotten wood around doors and windows which are difficult to shut. Lots of comments in the guest book that it's nice to have caravans where dogs are welcome, so if you have dogs and young children perhaps this would be better for you. We only had the kids and would probably go for the yurt next time.
