Ruda Holiday Park: Adventure play area

General

  • Within a short stroll of the surf and golden sands of Croyde Bay
  • Surfboards and wetsuits for hire; surfing lessons available
  • Tropical indoor pool, indoor/outdoor play, beach café and kids' clubs

Sick of being rudely awakened by your alarm clock? Try a Ruda wakening instead: after a blissfully peaceful lie-in, unzip your sleeping bag, take a gulp of fresh clean air and stroll a few steps down to the golden sands and sparkling waves… Ruda Holiday Park is in the perfect spot to make the most of the surfers' paradise of Croyde Bay on Devon’s Gold Coast, sitting right alongside the sweeping sandy bay.

Croyde is a world-famous destination for surfers, and it’d be ruda not to have a go while you’re here. You can hire a variety of boards, wetsuits and other kit from Ruda Holiday Park’s dedicated surf shop, and instructors from the renowned Surf South West school are on hand if you want lessons.

If the weather puts the kibosh on splashing around in the great outdoors, head for Ruda’s tropical indoor pool complex, where there are water rapids and underwater geysers, waterfalls, hydrojets and one humongous slide.

This site is great for kids of all ages, with beach games laid on throughout the summer, a soft play area, an outdoor playground complete with obstacle course, and very bouncy kids' clubs: toddlers can make their own musical instruments for a boogie with Sid the seagull and Lizzie the lizard; four- to 10-year-olds can star in their own superhero movie, or get stuck into nostalgic funfair sessions featuring a coconut shy, tin can alley and the like; and there are DJ workshops and plenty of other age-appropriate action for tweens and teens in the Freestyle club.

As with all Parkdean Resorts sites, you’ll find a good choice of on-site food options (Ruda has the added bonus of a beach café and ice-cream parlour), plus a sprightly schedule of evening entertainment, and comprehensive essential amenities.

Please note

Facilities/activities including pool facilities are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

We arrived at 7 pm and check in was closed. After speaking to the night staff we were giving our pitch. It’s was muddy but we were on a Motorhome so no an issue. Quick plug in and over to the club house.

We misses bingo on the first night but kids entertain was a hit with the 2 year olds. Followed by a few game shows. Now I don’t know if a different audience would of made a different night. But OMG when the singer came on the crowed was all up dancing. It was epic.

Breakfast in the restaurant on site was reasonable price.

2nd night we made bingo but wouldn’t let us pay because we didn’t have our pass. Lucky there was someone in the check desk. The Should of been a sign not to play because we didn’t win. Lol.

Great kids disco and Jimmy the ventriloquist was unbelievable. Another great night.

One thing I will say about park dean. Yes it might not be your cup or tea but the entertainment is always good if you have kids.

Swimming pool was a bit run down but didn’t stop us having fun.

Shower blocks and toilet were fine.

    Booked again for half term.

    Disliked:

Muddy pitches. Check in not open. Kids indoor area not open.

Local attractions

Don’t miss the chance to explore the Devonshire coastline surrounding Ruda Holiday Park. Recommendations include a walk to the headland at Baggy Point where you’ll be rewarded with outstanding views; a saunter along spectacular Saunton Sands, and a delve into the dunes at Braunton Burrows.

Croyde is a perfectly pretty village of thatched cottages, tearooms, pubs, restaurants, cafés and (but of course) surf shops.

There are umpteen visitor attractions in the area, particularly for animal enthusiasts, who can come face to face with life-sized model dinosaurs and a host of their living, breathing descendants at Combe Martin Wildlife Park; practise their trout pouts on some fishy friends at Ilfracombe’s aquarium; or get hands on with the animals at the Big Sheep, the area’s most eccentric day out: sheep racing and stunt ducks, anyone…?

Must see

  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (14.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum (11.2 miles)
  • Heddon Valley (14.7 miles)
