General

  • Quiet and spacious tree-lined site above Brixham in Devon
  • Three minutes' drive to Brixham; Berry Head coastal walks from site
  • Splashdown Quaywest 15 minutes; Paington Zoo 20 minutes; Dartmouth 40

Devon’s above… below and all around you on this super spot looking over Brixham.

Estate Agents might call it a dual aspect view. At Wall Park Touring Caravan and Centry Road Camping Site they just call it their own special corner of Devon. Sitting on the Berry Head peninsula, this lush green tree-lined site has Brixham harbour on one side, peaceful St. Mary’s Bay on the other.

It’s a smart site with a laundry, hot showers and disabled bathrooms. Regulars rave about the walk down into Brixham from the site; a 15-minute descent with the sea gulls, sea breezes and sea views getting ever closer. (They also point out it’s uphill on the way back; in a car, the trip’s about three minutes)

Brixham’s a handsome harbour town; great for fresh fish, as the boats unload here all day. To see a slightly older vessel, step aboard the Golden Hind, a replica of the craft Sir Francis Drake circled the globe in 450 years ago and still awash with history.

You can clock some miles up yourselves in this part of the Devon coast, on foot or by car. A walk round the Berry Head nature reserve will reward the most reluctant hikers, with huge views, a Napoleonic fort and cliffs alive with adders, guillemots and peregrine falcons. Hike round the headland, then take the path down to St. Mary’s Bay for a well-earned paddle.

Spotless facilities. Not sure 3 showers would be enough if campsite full.
    Very clean, tidy site.
We stayed 3 nights and didn't have to use motorhome to go out and about - good walks from site to Berry Head, steep walk into Brixham but only about 10 mins. Once in Brixham able to catch bus easily.

    Disliked:

£4 per night for dog a bit steep
Wifi would have been a bonus

The pitches appeared to be level but were lumpy and uneven. Unfortunately, it is near a building site which started work very early in the morning and was noisy.

Loved the fact wall park was filled with a mix of people of different ages. Lovely quiet site with everything we needed. Shown to our pitch which was nice. Facilities are basic but everything you need and nice a clean. Look forward to coming again

    Disliked:

My only complaint would be, that we were woken at 6am on the Sunday by people packing away their caravans and setting off. Other than that all good

Location of site in terms of proximity to the town. ... 10/09/2018

Location of site in terms of proximity to the town. Newly built facilities. Peaceful site when the buidling work next door eventually finished though whether it will remain peaceful when a large housing estate is on the doorstep is another matter!

    Disliked:

Building site right next door to the site. We were placed on a pitch very close to the building site and were told by the site staff that work finishes at 4pm and no work is done at weekends (we arrived on Friday lunch time). The noise was very disruptive so we went off site with a view to returning three hours later at 4pm. We duly returned at 4pm and the workmen didn't finish until 5pm. It was not pleasant sitting outside listening to the heavy machinery. By 5pm when the work did eventually stop, it was starting to get too cold to sit outside. We awoke next morning (Saturday) and lo and behold the workmen started work at 8am! We were specifically told that they didn't work at weekends. This was somewhat disappointing and did impact on our stay. I wouldn't have liked to stay during the week particularly on the pitch we had right next to the works. We were put in that pitch by the staff even though there were plenty of other pitches futher away from the action.
The pitches were all grass but the quality of the grass was poor and very pitted and uneven.
The charge for a dog was £4 per night which seemed rather excessive!

Local attractions

Many of the towns on the coast serve up a cracking cocktail of inland attraction and nearby beach; Dartmouth (40 minutes’ drive) being a good example. The 14th-century castle has estuary views and grisly history for those who like it; railway buffs can catch the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam line for a nostalgic tour of the surrounds and link up with a boat trip on the River Dart as well.

Adjacent to the town, Blackpool beach is sandy and safe for families, and adventurous sorts can go sea-kayaking. Further off, Hope Cove (an hour) offers the perfect combination of sand for burying your siblings in and rock pools for exploring.

If you do want a break from coastal activities, Paignton Zoo (20 minutes) has exotic residents in six different habitats; you can visit each one on the Jungle Express Train. Plymouth (an hour) is a popular port of call for its National Marine Aquarium and indoor ski slopes. For watery fun away from the beaches meanwhile, Splashdown Quay West (15 minutes) is an aqua park packed with flumes and slides and things to get wet in, and there are water rides, interactive dinosaurs and a zoo farm menagerie at Woodlands Adventure Park (45 minutes).

Must see
