Andrewshayes Caravan Park

For proximity to the sea without the higher prices of parks directly on the coast, take a look at Andrewshayes Caravan Park. Benefiting from the beauteous backdrop of the Blackdown Hills, this middling-sized site is only seven miles from the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, so the fossil beaches and seaside resorts are within easy reach.

Pull up a pew in the conservatory at the Ploughman’s Bar by the covered pool, where you can have a hot drink during the day from the machine or a drink from the bar in the evenings; there’s also a paddling pool for tadpoles. In the school hols, the bar lays on live singers and bingo at night (out of season, it’s open Fridays and Saturdays) and there’s a takeaway for those who want to put their feet up after a hard day’s relaxation.

Once the small fry have been fished out of the pool, there’s an adventure playground and games room to occupy them, plus a soft play area for anklebiters. Sheltered by large trees, the park has a top conservation award and offers a wide choice of hardstanding or grass pitches. Man’s best friend is welcome too, with good exercise areas on site.
