- In the grounds of an outdoor pursuits centre 20 minutes from Falmouth
- Via ferrata, archery and watersports among the on-site activities
- Café on site serving breakfasts, lunches and homemade cakes
In search of a bit of adrenaline-fuelled excitement on your travels? Want it right on your doorstep? It doesn’t come much closer than at Via Ferrata Cornwall, in the grounds of a family-friendly outdoor pursuits centre 20 minutes’ drive from Falmouth.
Around the 60-acre grounds are heaps of activities to get your heartbeat racing, including watersports (canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding), coasteering (in the on-site quarry), abseiling, indoor and outdoor climbing, and a via ferrata course with zipwire. There’s an extra charge for these but you’re free to roam around the nature trails to learn a bit about the natural world from the info boards as you wander.
There are enough facilities to keep you comfortable, including a washing-up area, a toilet block with clean toilets and hot showers, and an excellent café serving up breakfast, brunch, lunch and homemade cakes (using locally sourced ingredients and with vegan options) along with some lovely views.
Much of the site’s electricity is provided by a wind turbine and solar panels, so you can have a pretty clear conscience on the eco front. And if you need further incentive to take the plunge, you may like to bear in mind that a chunk of profits from the accommodation goes towards helping to fund the centre’s charity arm, BF Adventure.

Local attractions
Outdoorsy types will find plenty to keep them entertained for days on end around these parts. Along with the sizeable menu of activities on offer at the centre itself, you can reach the coast in 15 minutes or so for walking along the South West Coast Path and surf or paddleboard lessons from Falmouth Surf School. Riders can sign up for a hack through the countryside from a stables 10 minutes away, while golfers can tee off within 15 minutes.
Of course, once you’ve got to the coast you may instead just choose to bask on the beach: local faves Gyllyngvase, Swanpool and Maenporth can all be reached with a drive of about 20 minutes.
The harbour town of Falmouth around 20 minutes away is home to the National Maritime Museum, the seafront Pendennis Castle and the gorge Trebah Gardens. You can also hire small boats here to take trips on the River Fal, or join a wildlife-spotting trip to spy dolphins, seals and basking sharks out at sea. For guaranteed seal sightings, head to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek 15 minutes away.
The big family day out in the area is The Flambards Experience, a 20-minute drive from the site. There are rides and attractions galore here, including rollercoasters, a big wheel, go-karts and a recreation of a Victorian village.
