General

  • Peaceful park in a sheltered valley and wildlife haven
  • Two miles from Truro and 10 minutes' drive from sandy beaches
  • Adventure playground, shop, communal lounge and free wifi

Summer Valley Touring Park is a peaceful and private park, in a cocoon of trees two miles to the north of Truro, and in a south-facing sheltered valley in peaceful Cornish countryside and a wildlife haven. It's centrally located within Cornwall: the north coast and beaches are 10 minutes' drive away and the south coast within 20.

The south-facing pitches have lovely views over meadows and woodland, and there’s a smart service area, an adventure playground, a food shop and a heated facilities block with guest lounge and free wifi

The site is small (three acres) and family-owned, so holidaymakers can expect good service, a warm welcome and a relaxed environment. There’s a pub half a mile away in the village of Shortlanesend, or guests can make their way the two miles into Truro for lots more shops, restaurants and services.

Grab your bucket and spade and hit the miles of silky sand at Perranporth, just six miles away.

    Well priced, good location

    Disliked:

Shower and toilet facilities quite dated and not very clean. Showers not very powerful and was difficult to wash my hair properly. Also, was told Staffordshire bull terriers are not allowed on site even though they are not on the dangerous dogs act- felt as though this was very judgemental. Also, was told a barrier would be closed to the site at 10:30 which was untrue

From the manager...

Hi Laura

Thanks for taking the time to complete your review. We are surprised to hear that you had issues with the showers and also felt it was unclean as we have been constantly praised on the cleanliness and attention to detail we have. We also have notices displayed asking if you have any issues with cleanliness that you let us know so that we can rectify it for you with immediate effect, unfortunately you didn't do this.

We know our decision to ban various breeds will not be popular with everyone; especially those who own those dogs, however, we have made the decision based on customer feedback and our experience of dog behaviour on the park. Maybe next time you could find a site who will accept your woofers.

The gate bar is used and we are also careful that customers are not disadvantaged by this as we work with you to ensure that if you are late back, for example at the Landsend Fireworks etc we put the bar up later. Hopefully next season we will have an automatic barrier which will help address this particular concern you have raised.

Loved everything! Thankyou Kate, Phil and girls for a lovely relaxing week in your beautiful, site. Everything about the site was perfect, from the Location-great for perranporth and Truro, to the immaculately clean and tidy facility's, and even the small details like the help yourself herb garden 😀
My youngest especially liked the park, the first holiday I have felt safe enough to let him roam around with the other children and play kids games, and the hub room where he choose a new book every night from the bookshelf to read to us in bed (didn't once see him on his tablet!) my teenagers were obviously glued to the wifi in the hub, made more appealing by the company of the resident teenagers 😉
Site also perfect for dogs, with a Lovely walk in the field in the morning. Hopefully see you next year
    Thankyou xx

The views and the owners were lovely. Undercover wash up area and playpark were suitable for our young children and was perfectly located for us to travel to beaches.

    Disliked:

needs more showers and longer hours at the shop, although the owners were lovely enough to serve outside these hours if asked.

From the manager...

HI Hannah

It was lovely to have you stay here at Summer Valley. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Our shop is open during peak periods from 8am - 10am and 4pm-7pm as this is when the demand is highest, unfortunately we are not able to keep the shop open all day as we have to clean and do other chores. We have 6 showers, the AA only require us to have two for the size of our site. Demand for the showers varies during the day but as you know we don't limit the time or hot water so people can enjoy longer showers than some other sites; this may lead to a waiting time as peak periods. We are missing your puppy, she was lovely and a joy to have on the park - we now have two teenagers begging for another woofer! Hope to see you again, Regards, Kate

We liked EVERYTHING! The owners were kind and accommodating and made us feel very welcome (they even prepared tourist packs and vouchers) on arrival.
The facilities are great everything in one place - the site is small but well kept. The showers were always clean and hot - occasionally I had a small wait - but it was in the summer holidays and the park was full. They had ample toilets and other facilities such as the washing machine, 2 dryers and a feezer. The dish washing area also had dedicated vegetable prep and hand closthes washing sinks.
Location is great 2 minutes from Truro - petrol stations/cash machines and lots and lots of shops.
The site has a wifi spot in the kids hub which was always appreciated - we all had 4G on our phones so could search activities and things to do.
The kids play area is small and looks new with good equipment
Our tent pitch was on a slight incline, the pitches are large and accommodated 8 man tents no problem without feeling on top of each other.
Mostly families so the site was very quiet from 10pm onwards.
    We plan on visiting again!!

The view was lovely as the pod was facing away from the rest of the campsite, provided with chairs and bricks for a BBQ, nice and quiet, ideal location just a short drive away from local towns, plenty of showers/toilets/sinks and even a Maxine machine/drier and area to wash you dishes

Everything was excellent..... Toilets, showers, size of pitches. People were very helpful and welcoming.

If a downside at all we pitched on a very slight slope which made us feel as if we were sliding out of bed but that is really looking at something to find fault with.

Well laid out, welcoming feel, owners very friendly without being over the top.
Really relaxed feel, campsite was very clean, and in a lovely setting, we have two dogs which were well catered for with lovely morning walks in the fields behind the site and advice on dog friendly places to go to.
Good base to go out exploring Cornwall with plenty of beaches and walks nearby as well as truro for shopping.
Keeping in mind that the new owners have only had the place open for 6 months, the site is definitely in our top 5 Cornish campsites.

    Disliked:

Would prefer showers with temperature control rather than push button but serve the purpose just fine.
Onsite shop is basic, but again does the job.

Friendly welcome, quiet site (nearly everyone else had gone home after the school half term :). lovely and clean. toilets and showers very clean. Walking distance from a very nice pub. Well maintained. Very nice people.

    Disliked:

Would have liked to sit in the lounge in the quiet when it rained and read but it was full of children playing. Couldn't really ask them to leave as they got there first, so had to go to the pub instead! Shame.

Suggestion: my husband told me (afterwards) that one of the shower cubicles doesn't have a curtain and so his dry clothes became damp. It may be him being a wally of course.

If you are coming from the east along the A30 towards Redruth, ignore all signs to Truro and Shortlanesend. You will pass a large car (Nissan) showroom on the right, then take the next left turn, signposted Truro 4 miles. After 1 mile at Allet bear left towards Truro.

The site is approximately 0.5 miles on the right-hand side of the road. The site is clearly signposted.

If travelling from Truro, take the B3284 signposted Perranporth, the site is 2.5 miles out of Truro just through Shortlanesend on the left-hand side.

Local attractions

It’s less than half an hour to the following: Springfield Farm Park and Pony Centre, which on top of all the equine excitement has a huge indoor play barn and a variety of outdoor fun; penguins, parrots and otter antics at the Paradise Park wildlife sanctuary; and the mega milking parlour, rides and slides at Dairyland Farm World.

Flambards adventure park is about 30 minutes away too, or there’s more relaxed entertainment within the heavenly biomes of the Eden Project and at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Drama queens shouldn’t miss the opportunity to take in an open air performance in the jaw-dropping setting of the Minack Theatre.

In ye olden days, a naive chap taking a day trip to St Ives might find himself landed with seven wives, cats, sacks and more... These days, advice is to avoid these traditional souvenirs and make a beeline for the Tate Gallery instead.
