General

  • Quiet family-run park with shop and summer shuttle to the beach
  • Surfing, horse riding and rockpooling within five minutes' drive
  • A 45-minute drive from the Eden Project

Surfing for experts and learners alike... horse riding... safe beaches for swims, paddles and walks, bike trails and castles… and cliffs. If you reckon all that is setting the bar too high and that no one spot could tick all these boxes all at once, the team at Higher Golla Touring Park can happily tell you otherwise.

This family-run park in north Cornwall is a five-minute drive from Perranporth, where surf schools, wave action and wide sandy beaches combine for all-round coastal hol haven. It’s a quiet site with country views, but easy access to roads like the A30 and A390 mean many of Cornwall attractions are within an hour’s drive.

Higher Golla is also a pretty place to come back to in between your jaunts, lined with trees and splashed with colour from the many flowering plants. You can’t reach out and pick your dinner from the branches, but the next best thing is right on site: a shop selling groceries, tinned food and camping supplies.

To make things even easier, the helpful Higher Golla folks run a shuttle bus down to Perranporth beach in the summer months, so no need to stress about fitting picnics, footballs and inflatable flamingos in your rucksack…

As well as a brace of surf schools and a sea water swimming pool on the beach, Perranporth has a fab combination of rockpools for exploring and soft sands for… everything you want to do on the sand. Thanks to the nearby riding school, this includes beach treks and shoreline galloping... so giddy-up and get going.

The facilities here are nice and clean, such a simple design make to create a luxury stay. The hosts at higher golla are the friendly couple I’ve come across, they made me feel so welcome and at home which was lovely as I was a solo traveller. The land itself is very flat with a lot of space for everyone. I would highly recommend staying here!

Everything from the moment we got there to the moment we left and stayed an extra night Trevor and Linda are fantastic owners who will bend over backwards to help you out. We liked it that much we are booking for 2020. The good thing about the site is that it's very central to places to go within the cornish peninsula. The site its self is very clean and tidy and well presented. Shower block is pristine and comes complete with music while you shower. In a nutshell 10 out of 10 for this touring park. Trevor and Linda it was a pleasure for the hospitality we were given the past 15 nights see you next year

    Disliked:

To say dislike would be a huge overstatement but I think I would have given 5* to this site if the entrance to the site weren't through a commercial area. This area is very quiet and the businesses seem considerate to the campers but it just detracts from an otherwise fantastic site. Appreciate that there is probably nothing owners can do about that but.......

From the manager...

Thank you for your great review.

As far as your "slightly disliked" comment goes, you have to realise that this was a working farm up to a few years ago and we have "diversified " the old farm buildings to small lock-ups and workshops to help the local community, which has proved very popular.
In no way, we think, does it detract from the attraction of a well run site with lovely rural views across the valley and a fabulous dog and stroll walk to the end of the farm fields all of which is kept well mown.

Anyway, it is obviously not going to stop you from returning and we will be delighted to see you again.

As a group of young lads and one girl we normally face alot of discrimination based on people thinking we will be messy and loud, this was definitely not the case here.

Trevor and Linda are wonderful friendly owners, we felt like we were staying with family. From giving advice on places to see and eat to driving us down to the local town for a small charge. Also lent us jump leads when one of the cars was flat.

Toilets were really clean and showers were hot and good pressure.

The size of the pitch is fantastic and really good value for money when you compare to other local sites.

The site is really peacful and we will definitley be back again.

    Disliked:

Only one flushing toilet in the mens, however there are more toilets available near the reception so just a bit of an extra walk. Saying that the toilet was always really clean to say it probably gets alot of use.

Great location with access to all areas of Cornwall. Just a short ride to the beautiful beach and town of Perranporth. The lovely owners Linda and Trevor are always around to help if needed. Pitches are very well maintained as are the toilets/shower block and dish washing facilities. This is our 2nd time here and we will definitely be coming back. If you’re looking for a laid back chill out site with EHU, water and a shop with all basic essentials then this is the perfect site. It is also dog friendly.

Local attractions

Want a break from the beach? Set course from Cambrose 10 minutes’ drive away and hire bikes for the coast-to-coast route down to Devoran, or pick up the Camel Trail in Padstow (40 minutes) for rides and hikes through 18 miles of cracking Cornish countryside.

If that’s not energetic enough for some, get over to Kernow Adventure Park (half an hour) for wakeboarding and floating assault courses, combined with a beach and café for those of a more easygoing nature.

It’s a similar distance to Falmouth, where sturdy Pendennis Castle looks as if Henry VIII has only just declared it open, and where those with military leanings can delve into four centuries’ worth of catapults, cannons and World War I hardware... and everyone else can just revel in the clifftop views. The town’s National Maritime Museum makes for interesting wanders as well, especially when topped off with trips on the old wooden ferries to St Mawes, or up the River Fal.

Flower fan? The lawns, orchard and gardens at Trelissick House (20 minutes) are sumptuous in all seasons and if you fancy wandering the foliage of warmer climes, it’s 45 minutes to the subtropical biospheres of the Eden Project.
