Green camping on partly-cleared moorland (which is part of a heather regeneration project) in south-west Cornwall. The site overlooks the sea and is near the small town of St Just and Sennen beach. This is Wild West Penwith, so be prepared for all sorts of weather, wildlife and birds, and compost toilets. It's near a very minor road that wiggles from farm to farm for about three miles between St Just and Sennen.
We aim to keep our prices on the cheap side. There is a large, dry barn used as a communal space where you can socialise, read, or make music or a cup of tea on a wet day. The low-level climbing frame, trampolines or a game of football will keep the kids amused in the evening while you relax and watch the sun set over the western ocean.
Water is provided by a modern hand pump from a deep borehole - it's clean and very cold. The campsite also has an unheated shower set up, a wash area and a sink. We also have a communal firepit and (if you stick some firewood under the tank!) a hot tub. The newer of the two compost toilets has a door and a seat.
The hot tub is free of charge but campers must provide their own firewood (available in bags from a shop about three miles down the road) and you have to fill it yourselves (with hand-pumped water from the borehole).

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
Large tents/caravans: check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit is suitable for the space you will be provided with.

Take the A3071 St Just road for about 6 miles west out of Penzance (if going through Penzance just keep going around the ring road and turn right at the last roundabout). Around 3/4 mile before St Just, the road goes over an angled crossroads at which you need to turn a hard left (signposted to Numphra and Sancreed).
Continue up here about 300 yards, taking the second turn off on the right (there's a small sign to Roselands Caravan Park). Follow this road as it passes the caravan park on the left, winds right and left through a farmyard (Little Dowran), goes down and up a small hill and turns hard right past the dirt track (signposted to Bartinney Barns) on your left. After another 100 yards, there is a big metal gate (into an apparently empty field) on your left there is a painted sign saying Numphra Downs Farm. Drive in, park at the bottom of the field (see the barn and trampolines) and put up your tent.
Sennen and Gwenver beach are great for surfing. The area is wonderful for walking (especially through the wild flowers in the spring) and cycling. Lands' End, Penzance, the Tate Gallery at St Ives and other attractions are near enough for a rainy day.
Three miles away, sea surrounds the campsite in three compass directions, with many wild coves and secret places to explore. There are rock pools to swim in, bays to snorkel with the seals and fish, the coastal footpath (and its links), artists' studios, cafés, ancient sites, stone circles and monuments, and of course the local celebrations in St Just (Lafrowda) and Penzance (Maisey Day). Folk clubs, real ale and good honest ethical food, fresh fish, trips to the Scilly Isles, surf schools, kayaking, horse riding and birdwatching are also within reach.
