- Cornish estate around a 17th-century mansion
- Heated pool, library, writing room and regular events
- Indoor game area and woodland playground
Verily, you’ll very much like Trewan Hall Camping Site between Padstow and Newquay in mid-Cornwall. It’s been developed on an old Cornish estate around the 17th-century mansion of Trewan Hall, and has been carefully maintained with traditional building techniques to blend in with its 36-acre woodland and garden surroundings. And speaking of gardens, they’re lush – have a look at the site pics...
The Hill family have added all sorts of little touches to make this a top family site, like entertainment varying from local rock/brass bands to shows in the Long Barn in the summer holidays, all professional and free of charge, and the 25-metre covered heated pool, also available in high season.
Available at all times are a large field for ball games in front of the Hall, barns for table tennis, a barn with pool table set aside for teenagers and adults, and a library and writing room. A fully-stocked shop is open nearly 14 hours a day in high season, shorter hours in low season, selling groceries, camping equipment, souvenirs, toys and games.
There are two different areas to pick a pitch from: one aimed at families near the play park, shop and barns, and the other more secluded in a bigger field – in both, you can pitch up where you like to have plenty of room, with the owners managing bookings so that there are always more pitches than people and what’s on offer never feels overcrowded.
For the essentials, there’s a shower and toilet block with a family bathroom, disabled/family shower room and wetsuit shower; here’s where you’ll also find the baby changing facilities, washing-up area and hairdryer. (Drying facilities are also available elsewhere on site.)
Trewan Hall also has a woodland playground.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.

Heading south west on the A30, take the A39/B3279 ramp to Newquay/A392/Airport/St Columb/St Dennis/Indian Queens. At the first roundabout, take the third exit onto the A39. At the second roundabout, take the third exit again towards Wadebridge. About a mile along this road (St Columb bypass), take the first turning on the left directing you towards St Eval and Talskiddy. On the back lane, Trewan Hall Campsite is the third turning on the left.
Trewan Hall is near the centre of Cornwall with easy access to the north coast beaches and within easy driving distance of most of Cornwall’s attractions. For a short stroll, head into the old market town of St Columb Major a mile away, where there’s a 15th-century church, surf store, antique shop and fish and chip shops galore.
Sand fans will be in heaven in this part of Cornwall: the closest beach to Trewan Hall is Mawgan Porth four miles away and has surf shops and a surf school; the beach is dog friendly all year round. Gorgeous Watergate Bay is ten minutes’ drive away, or head to the famous Seven Bays clustered around the village of St Merryn, which is a few miles from Padstow and within 15–20 minutes’ drive of the campsite.
Within 10 miles of Trewan Hall are three famous Cornwall spots to spend days at and not want to come home: Newquay, where you should wriggle into your wetsuit for some of the best surfing in the country (surf schools are all over town and nearby for the uninitiated); Padstow for the Camel Trail and Camel Estuary Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; and Wadebridge for more Camel Trailing, buzzing around the Porteath Bee Centre and sending the kids flying at the Crealy Great Adventure Park. Zipwires, biodomes and more can be had at the Eden Project around 15 miles from Trewan Hall.
Natch there’s sea fishing, river fishing and all sorts of slippery catches to be had all around north and south Cornwall including crabbing in the harbour at Padstow, rock fishing at Godrevy Point and beach fishing for plaice from Watergate Bay. There’s coarse fishing among the kingfishers at Mawgan Porth Pools Lake and fishing for salmon and trout on the River Camel for anglers who prefer to keep things fresher.
Not want to get your feet wet? You’ll also be close to hand from Trewan Hall to many top Cornwall attractions like Lanhydrock House and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the tors and walks of Bodmin Moor and, to the south west, tin mining country and Helston’s Poldark Mine.
