General

  • Traditional camping with first-rate facilities
  • Restaurant and café serving locally sourced food
  • Wildlife hide and pond to spy butterflies, badgers, foxes and falcons

Still trying to persuade a reluctant lesser half to come camping? If ditching them really isn’t an option, we suggest you pack them into the car and take them to Treveague Farm near Cornwall’s St Austell.

The tagline at Treveague is ‘traditional camping as it should be’, but you can reassure your beloved that this will not mean shivering under a trickling cold tap, being in the middle of nowhere or chowing down on half-frozen chips: the facilities here are first-rate, sea views are every which way and three beaches are within walking distance.

Fancy some first-rate food too? Sneak along to the alfresco Secret Garden café, open in peak weeks in July and August and serving up tasty organic and locally sourced treats a tad beyond the traditional camping menu: slow-cooked shoulder of lamb in red wine for the grownups and not a chicken nugget in sight for the juniors, for example...

Treveague has a heated and swish shower and loo block (showers are token-operated) with separate disabled facilities, an additional ladies’ dressing room with power sockets, mirrors and baby changing area, a drying room for boots and coats and a campers’ kitchen with microwave, fridge and power sockets. (Freeze your ice packs for free at reception.)

Also on site is a wildlife hide where curious Georges can spy butterflies and dragonflies by day and badgers and foxes by night, and a natural spring fed pond to attract buzzards, peregrine falcons and hummingbird hawk moths. Kids can put in a few hours at the wooden play fort too – we can practically hear the parental wine corks popping already…

AA 3 pennants

Please note

Showers on site are token operated: each token gives guests 4 minutes of hot water and 2 tokens cost £1.

The area was lovely. We've been able to have long walks on the 3 beaches close to the campsite and also in the surrounding little forests, towns. It was just beautiful. This place really can be called the Walkers Paradise 😊👍❤️
We received kind customer service as well. All the problems we had were solved. So it was a lovely and peaceful time! Looking forward to going back again!

We got the worst weather ever unfortunately, especially during the nights what made everything difficult but despite that our holiday was unforgettably good!!
    Thank you very much!

Wow what a view! very good location with some nice walks to gorran haven, the dodman (national trust), pub etc. 15 min drive to st austell etc. Site was extremely clean, well kept, good facilities, helpful staff and good sized pitches at a very good price. I had read previous reviews and people had moaned there wasnt enough recycling facilities....Oh there is!! other people moaning having to pay 50p for 4 min token for the shower....Shame on the moaners, showers were perfectly clean, hot and well worth 50p of anyone's money! We paid £10 per night with electric and water at pitch for 2 adults I wouldn't expect for showers etc to be free its a complete bargain anyway!!
Even though the site was busy it was not noisy at all, everyone very respectful. We will absolutely be booking this site again in the future and I would also recommend others to visit.

Lovely site. We went out of season so the cafe etc were shut but it was still lovely and the reception staff were helpful and friendly. The site was clean and tidy and had great sea views. The enclosed play area kept our 3 children entertained for hours. Easy walking distance to gorran haven beach although it is rough ground and a hill back up to campsite. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends and family.

    Disliked:

Reception only open 8am till 10pm so no one there on arrival but they had left signs giving info on what to do. Tokens for showers only available at reception as machines were out of order. The weather on the last day was horrendous but that was out of the owners control. Overall though our stay was a great one.

Local attractions

Treveague is on the spectacular Roseland Peninsula with beautiful beaches, child-safe bathing and hidden coves all around, as well as a good handful of historical houses, green gardens and quick access to the Eden Project, about ten miles away.

Mevagissey, St Mawes, and St Just are all nearby for pit and pasty stops; we’d recommend picking up some Cornish cider too for dinner later at the Secret Garden.

Go in one direction from Treveague Farm to reach the family-friendly beach at Gorran Haven and the fish and chip shop, restaurant and pub at the village, and in the other for the rockpools of more secluded Hemmick beach and the long peaceful stretch and good fishing of the beach at Vault (the far end of Vault is naturist). As it’s the south coast, waters here are generally calm and not used for surfing, but sailing, fishing boat hire and kayaking is available from Mevagissey.

The area is blooming with good gardens: the National Trust’s Lanhydrock, Trerice and Trelissick, the very lovely oddness of the Lost Gardens of Heligan four miles from Treveague Farm and the biomes of the Eden Project for the kids to trek through a tropical rainforest.

Further along the coastline, make time for another National Trust site, the tidal island of St Michael’s Mount just off the coast at Mount's Bay and one of 43 of the county’s islands that can be walked to from the mainland at low tide (impress people with that factoid back home while you show them the pics). Boats carry passengers from Marazion a mile and a half away when the water is higher.

Other accessible options from Treveague Farm include the yachts and trawlers of Fowey harbour, rides at Flambards and the Crealy Great Adventure Park, shopping in St Austell and Truro, and following the Clay Trail by foot, bike or horse: try the five-mile trek along the trail from the Eden Project to Wheal Martyn.

Must see

  • Lost Gardens of Heligan (3.7 miles)
  • Eden Project (9.6 miles)
  • Truro Cathedral (11.2 miles)

National Trust

  • St Anthony Head (10.4 miles)
  • Trelissick Garden (10.4 miles)
