  • Back-to-basics pitches on a working farm in Cornwall’s Lynher Valley
  • A 10-minute drive to the Tamar Bridge; 30 minutes to the sea and moors
  • Dog-friendly grass site; pubs, shops, watersports and beaches close by
Tredown Farm Camping is set in secluded fields on a 115-acre sheep farm and livery yard. It’s in a quiet corner of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and accessed by no-through roads with almost no passing traffic, so the vibe is wonderfully peaceful and calm.. Here families and friendS can take in views across the tidal estuary and listen to the birds tweeting away on the farm. You are more than welcome to explore your surroundings, and there is loads of space for kids (and dogs) to kick a ball around safely. Spacious pitches come with a portable toilet and cold-water tap, with rubbish disposal available on site. Hot water and washing-up facilities are available in one of the farm buildings a couple of minutes’ walk from the pitches – best pack a torch for night-time visits. Barbecues are permitted (please raise them off the ground) or if you’re feeling sociable, why not use the communal firepit for cooking (seasoned logs are supplied free of charge) and have a chat with your fellow guests? Although it’s really tempting to cosy up around your tent, lay back and watch the stars. From the campsite, you can walk to a cosy pub in 20 minutes, and there are plenty more in Saltash (10 minutes’ drive) which also has a bundle of handy supermarkets for stocking up. Cross over the Tamar Bridge into Plymouth (30 minutes) for all your big-city amenities plus the buzzy Barbican area lined with pubs and cafés. You can follow the A38 to cute fishing villages and beaches along the south coast – Looe and Polperro are worth a squint for their whitewashed harbourside cottages and seafood pubs. Travelling with the kids? Whitsand Bay (25 minutes) has miles of sand to run on, and if that doesn’t tire them out, try them on the thrill rides at Adrenalin Quarry (20 minutes).
