You’ll get stonking great views at this site, where the pitches look out over the 275-acre Stithians Lake.

There’s loads of space around the site for family games and picnics, as well as a pirate-themed children’s playground, walking trails around the lake and a bird hide for confirmed and wannabe twitchers. Dogs are welcome on site as long as they're kept on leads.

The range of activities on offer at Stithians Lake Campsite makes the site ideal for groups: the limpid waters have excellent sport for fly fishermen, who can cast from boat or bank for sizeable brown and rainbow trout (just note that Environment Agency rod licences are required for over 12s and you'll need to apply for this beforehand).

If coarse fishing is more up your street, Argal lake is about 10 minutes’ drive from Stithians: purchase a day pass for fishing and enjoy the great café on site. Pedal-driven recreationalists can cycle along the off-track road to the dam.

Visitors can also try out a wide range of watersports with the help of the jovial, qualified instructors at the Outdoor Active centre. Windsurfing, sailing, rowing, kayaking and walk-on-water balls are all on offer.

Feel free to bring your own kit or rent it on site (however, guests must have third party insurance for their own water craft and those using their own equipment must pay a small charge on arrival. You can find out more about prices and policies in the Terms and Conditions). And as tempting as it might be to take a refreshing dip in the lake, swimming is not allowed...

Rid yourselves of the rumbles at the on-site café and refreshment kiosk, or have some of the homemade specials on the menu at the Golden Lion pub, a mere 100 yards away.

For further activities, check out the local indoor swimming pool and gym, the crazy golf at Swanpool Beach, and the energetic escapades to be found on the many other golden sands nearby, from coasteering to scuba diving.

The shower and toilet facilities are shared with the watersports centre and are a very short walk from the camping area. Both the men's and women's facilities are a changing room layout, with two small cubicles and four communal showers. There's also a shower room for guests with reduced mobility. The facilities can get pretty busy when the watersports centre is open so plan your showers accordingly.

Stithians village is within easy reach of the campsite to stock up on supplies.
