General
- Award-winning 2.5 miles from Perranporth
- Across 21 acres of colourful Cornish landscape
- Three fishing lakes, wildlife areas, playground and spotless amenities
A ‘national treasure’ is just one of the many (many) comments from very (very) happy guests of award-winning Perran Springs Holiday Park at Perranporth in Cornwall, of which it might respectfully be suggested that if you, the other half, the kids and the dog don’t have a rollicking good time, you might need to have your camping licence revoked.
Location first: Perran Springs is two and a half miles from the fab and family-friendly beach at Perranporth, five minutes’ drive from Newquay and centrally placed to explore whatever aspect of Cornwall tickles your fancy, from award-winning beaches to art galleries to family days out. It’s spread across 21 acres of a secluded sheltered valley, with the best of Cornish countryside views from the site, and flowers, shrubs and trees blazing colour across it.
And now for activities… gillty of always casting off on hol? The park has three lakes for coarse fishing on a grand scale: the Mayfly, Butterfly and Dragonfly lakes, all stuffed with specimens including tench, bream, rudd, roach and carp of up to 20lb. The site shop sells tackle, rods and other fishing bits and bobs, with angling expert Andrew on hand to give advice. You'll need a permit to fish at the lakes on site which you can collect at reception.
Perran Springs is also a nature conscious park and has set up bits and pieces all over to encourage both local wildlife and curious minds, including a nature pond, nature trail and butterfly, bug and bee garden; look out on and around the site for moths and lizards too. If the kids still need to let off steam, the playground, Fox Recreation Meadow and running around the various open spaces should tire them out nicely.
The park’s award-winning showers and other amenities are kept ‘spotlessly clean’ (another guest accolade) and include dishwashing sinks, a launderette, baby changing room, and an outdoor area for rinsing off your wetsuit.
Finally (woof), even the family canine will be content here, as Perran Springs is dog-friendly and has lots of opps around for walks. The local pub, the New Inn within walking distance at Goonhavern, accepts well-behaved dogs in its beer garden.
All in all, a park to put a definite spring in your step…

Great site, well kept facilities with friendly staff and ample pitches

Dear M, Thank you for your detailed review. It was lovely to see your family again and over the years we have seen your children grow into young adults. They are a credit to you both. Sorry about the cold shower! It was fixed as you know, after we were notified and turned out to be an intermittent issue with one of the boilers causing temporary colder temperatures. Maybe next time you will get a full week fishing - but then again maybe not!!! :-) Best Wishes, |

We are regularly commented on the large size of our pitches, you were on a hardstanding which accommodates a large caravan or motorhome, an awning, a car, plus grass on which to sit and relax. We do not have hedges or screens, as we opted to design the campsite for people to enjoy the views and not to be boxed in. This can be clearly seen by viewing the pictures both on pitchup and our website. Which we are sure you would have reviewed before booking with us? We do have the regulated amount of showers and toilets for our site licence, which caters for 120 units. Whilst you we holidaying with us we had approximately 80 units. The facilities are deep cleaned and closed for cleaning once a day (approx. 12noon to 1pm one side and then approx. 1pm to 2pm on the other). We also spot check every hour and clean the showers/toilets/floor as and when necessary. Unfortunately, we cannot sit in the toilet facilities 24 hours a day, so if they are naturally slightly messy for the odd ½ an hour, you could have simply notified us and they would have been tidied up immediately. Most of the reviews on pitchup, comment on our clean facilities. If you thought our fishing prices were expensive, then why book with us in the first place? A child permit to fish for the week you stayed is £19.00, approximately £2.70 a day. If you think that is expensive, we suggest you take up another sport/hobby!! Regarding the bait we offer, we are not quite sure how you could not have seen our full range of bait, which has been in our shop all season and is still fully stocked, including: Stimul8or Groundbaits, Green Fishmeal 900g, Sweet Carp 900g, Chocolate Orange 900g, Black Betaine 900g Regarding the fishing not being productive, have you considered that fishing ability needs to be considered, as well as the weather and pressure patterns, which all affects how a fish feeds? We clearly state Wifi is free but limited. A good signal is available on the benches outside the reception, you don’t actually get a good signal inside the shop or leaning by the window, as the receiver is not in the shop, but outside – maybe that’s where you were going wrong. I you had asked we could have told you where the Wifi receiver was located. |

Travelling westwards through Cornwall, bypass the village of Indian Queens, remaining on the A30. Continue straight over the roundabout by the wind farm, signposted Redruth A30 and Perranporth B3285. After 1.5 miles turn right at the Boxheater junction, onto the B3285 signed Perranporth and Goonhavern. Continue along the B3285 for 1.5 miles, following the brown tourism signs marked Perran Springs. The park entrance will then be clearly seen on the right-hand side.
Local attractions
Perran Springs Holiday Park is just inland from Cornwall’s north coast and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it drive to Perranporth and lifeguarded Perran Beach, edged by the range of dunes at Penhale Sands.
Perran Beach is popular with surfers and kitesurfers, as are many beaches along the north coast including surf capital Newquay and family-friendly Portreath; surf schools and surf hire shops are of course all around for those who like to skate the waves. On land, Perranporth Golf Club is just north of the town and the long-distance South West Coast Path covers a 12-mile hike from Perranporth to Newquay via Fistral Beach.
Within five miles of Perran Springs, whether you stick to the coast or go inland, there’s enough to keep all ages out of mischief. Littlies will like Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium, while grownups of a green-fingered tint have the gardens of Elizabethan manor Trerice to tempt them. Further inland, green spaces such as The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are within 30 minutes’ drive.
Nearby Newquay isn’t just about the surf and its zoo: have a go at its golf club with views over the Atlantic or take a puff on the Lappa Valley Steam Railway on the town outskirts; horse-riding, boat trips and deep sea fishing can all be arranged from here too. For a rainy day, award-winning DairyLand Farmworld should be a hit with the kids.
Around towns, hike up the hills and poke around the antiques and curio shops of Truro and Falmouth, or coasthop around other villages and towns on the north and south coast such as arty St Ives and the Tate St Ives gallery and Tintagel of King Arthur legend; around most, you should find a sandy beach and a hidden cove or two as well.
Or stay very close to home: Perran Springs has private access to a footpath going through the Carn Moor Nature Reserve and Conservation Area which is next to the park.
