General

  • Award-winning 2.5 miles from Perranporth
  • Across 21 acres of colourful Cornish landscape
  • Three fishing lakes, wildlife areas, playground and spotless amenities

A ‘national treasure’ is just one of the many (many) comments from very (very) happy guests of award-winning Perran Springs Holiday Park at Perranporth in Cornwall, of which it might respectfully be suggested that if you, the other half, the kids and the dog don’t have a rollicking good time, you might need to have your camping licence revoked.

Location first: Perran Springs is two and a half miles from the fab and family-friendly beach at Perranporth, five minutes’ drive from Newquay and centrally placed to explore whatever aspect of Cornwall tickles your fancy, from award-winning beaches to art galleries to family days out. It’s spread across 21 acres of a secluded sheltered valley, with the best of Cornish countryside views from the site, and flowers, shrubs and trees blazing colour across it.

And now for activities… gillty of always casting off on hol? The park has three lakes for coarse fishing on a grand scale: the Mayfly, Butterfly and Dragonfly lakes, all stuffed with specimens including tench, bream, rudd, roach and carp of up to 20lb. The site shop sells tackle, rods and other fishing bits and bobs, with angling expert Andrew on hand to give advice. You'll need a permit to fish at the lakes on site which you can collect at reception.

Perran Springs is also a nature conscious park and has set up bits and pieces all over to encourage both local wildlife and curious minds, including a nature pond, nature trail and butterfly, bug and bee garden; look out on and around the site for moths and lizards too. If the kids still need to let off steam, the playground, Fox Recreation Meadow and running around the various open spaces should tire them out nicely.

The park’s award-winning showers and other amenities are kept ‘spotlessly clean’ (another guest accolade) and include dishwashing sinks, a launderette, baby changing room, and an outdoor area for rinsing off your wetsuit.

Finally (woof), even the family canine will be content here, as Perran Springs is dog-friendly and has lots of opps around for walks. The local pub, the New Inn within walking distance at Goonhavern, accepts well-behaved dogs in its beer garden.

All in all, a park to put a definite spring in your step…

Great Family Friendly Camping 29/06/2017

Nice friendly campsite which is well looked after. Showers are free, spotless and open 24hrs with no keys etc required. Hot water was next to our tent via the water stations dotted around the site.

All the pitches were well cut and flat. Pitches are clearly marked with plenty of space.

Our dog had to be kept on a lead, but there is a long dog walk just at the bottom of the campsite, which offer some great walks with or without a dog. Perranporth was also close by.

We didn't fish, but the lakes are nice and could see fish swimming around.

Would recommend to anyone looking for a friendly quite camping experience.

    Disliked:

    nothing to complain about

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.

We are pleased you found our facilities spotless and our pitches spacious. Perranporth is a lovely beach to exercise your dog in the evening and is just a short drive away.

Thank you for your kind comments,
Best Wishes,
Perran Springs

I couldn't find any faults for this campsite. There is a small shop onsite, which at this time of year you just knock the house door and they will open it up for you.

The showers are free and exceptionally clean & tidy.

We pitched our caravan on a hard standing which was flat and plenty of room for our awning and land rover to park on.

The pitch wasn't fully serviced but there is hot and cold water points within 20 to 30 ft of each pitch.

The fishing lakes are great, and I caught plenty of carp, most days I banked between 20 & 30 carp and that was only in the evenings - so its a great fishery.

The whole family enjoyed it here, and the nearby beaches are great, especially Crantock beach. Weatherspoons pub in Perranporth serves good cheap food, but most evenings we had a BBQ by our caravan.

Will return the Perran Springs next time we are in Cornwall. Thank you to all the family that run the site for a great holiday.

    Carla & family xx

First Class Camping - friendly owners, very clean and level pitches 24/06/2017

The weather was excellent and so was the campsite.
Friendly and caring owners, nice clean showers and immaculate grounds.

We stayed here for 5 nights and wish we could have stayed longer, spent each day just walking around their lakes looking for wildlife, took quite a few photos.

Campsite is only a few minutes drive to Perranporth and the garden centre (about 10 minutes walk) does a lovely breakfast.

We have already booked to visit this campsite in the Summer, and would recommend this if your looking for a quite family site.

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your kind review and for posting the photos. The Bay Tree Restuarant is at the garden centre and is also popular throughout the year for their delicious cakes!

See you again,

Clean toilets & showers. Central location for travelling around Cornwall.

    Disliked:

Pitches, to close together, no disabled facilities, staff rude...

From the manager...

The reason for this bad review is still unknown to us. Despite our friendly approach, the large 9m pitch and another empty one next to you (which you also could have used for seating, relaxing and playing etc), our clean facilities and our good location. It seems that you were still not happy. It is a shame you did not choose to inform us of any of your concerns during your stay.

Thank you for acknowledging our clean toilets and showers in your review. We are centrally located as you mention and have an ideal position near to Perranporth Beach and for experiencing the whole of Cornwall.

Your dislikes are difficult to understand. You arrived on the Friday of the August Bank Holiday, when we were fairly busy. However, on the Saturday morning the row of pitches behind you all left that morning, along with the two pitches opposite and the pitch on the right hand side of your own. For the remaining 3 nights of your stay, you were only next to one other occupied pitch. Your tent was listed as 7.5m x 4.5m on your booking, your pitch was the middle of three 9m pitches, each with an additional 2m gap on either side. There was one of our Eurotents at the end of the row, which was also empty from the Saturday morning onwards!!!

With regard to disabled facilities, guests are able to contact us for an access statement and to discuss any individual requirements, we will always do our best to accommodate any requests and answer any queries. You did not mention anything regarding disabled facilities at any time during your booking or during your stay with us. Instead, you decided to go home and write this review for no apparent reason.

With regard to rudeness, we do not actually recall talking to anyone in your family, other than during booking in on arrival. We are always polite and try to make the booking in process swift and pleasant, so you are able to start enjoying your holiday as soon as possible. We are a family run park and as such, do not employ anyone else in Reception, so we know there was no rudeness on our part.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you liked our facilities. Sometimes you need to press the shower button a few times to get the warm water through, as the water in the pipes sometimes cools off between users. The boilers are all instant heat and run on demand.

Good Facilities 21/08/2016

Good tent pitch sizes, ease of access to washing up and bin facilities. Somewhere to store your cold blocks if required. Facilities were clean and the owners were helpful.
15-20 minute drive to newquay and perranporth.

    Disliked:

Shower water ran cold on occasion. Could possibly use a second toilet block in the opposite corner of the park as it is a long way from the toilets in the night/morning. 4 showers in the mens block did lead to queues at peak times (but this is august). Wifi/phone signal is abysmal.
    Not much else.

Travelling westwards through Cornwall, bypass the village of Indian Queens, remaining on the A30. Continue straight over the roundabout by the wind farm, signposted Redruth A30 and Perranporth B3285. After 1.5 miles turn right at the Boxheater junction, onto the B3285 signed Perranporth and Goonhavern. Continue along the B3285 for 1.5 miles, following the brown tourism signs marked Perran Springs. The park entrance will then be clearly seen on the right-hand side.

Local attractions

Perran Springs Holiday Park is just inland from Cornwall’s north coast and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it drive to Perranporth and lifeguarded Perran Beach, edged by the range of dunes at Penhale Sands.

Perran Beach is popular with surfers and kitesurfers, as are many beaches along the north coast including surf capital Newquay and family-friendly Portreath; surf schools and surf hire shops are of course all around for those who like to skate the waves. On land, Perranporth Golf Club is just north of the town and the long-distance South West Coast Path covers a 12-mile hike from Perranporth to Newquay via Fistral Beach.

Within five miles of Perran Springs, whether you stick to the coast or go inland, there’s enough to keep all ages out of mischief. Littlies will like Newquay Zoo and the Blue Reef Aquarium, while grownups of a green-fingered tint have the gardens of Elizabethan manor Trerice to tempt them. Further inland, green spaces such as The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are within 30 minutes’ drive.

Nearby Newquay isn’t just about the surf and its zoo: have a go at its golf club with views over the Atlantic or take a puff on the Lappa Valley Steam Railway on the town outskirts; horse-riding, boat trips and deep sea fishing can all be arranged from here too. For a rainy day, award-winning DairyLand Farmworld should be a hit with the kids.

Around towns, hike up the hills and poke around the antiques and curio shops of Truro and Falmouth, or coasthop around other villages and towns on the north and south coast such as arty St Ives and the Tate St Ives gallery and Tintagel of King Arthur legend; around most, you should find a sandy beach and a hidden cove or two as well.

Or stay very close to home: Perran Springs has private access to a footpath going through the Carn Moor Nature Reserve and Conservation Area which is next to the park.
