Cligga Cliff Farm: Well spaced pitches

General

  • Small, friendly and family-run site on the north Cornish coast
  • Back-to-basics pitches 10 minutes' walk from Perranporth beach
  • Set directly on the South West Coast Path for seaside strolls

For a no-frills break on a family-friendly smallholding, consider Cligga Cliff Farm and you’ll be sold as soon as you spot the sea views – the site is right on the South West Coast Path, with Perranporth beach a 10-minute walk away.

Strollers and cyclists are well catered for at this park, with saunters along the seaside and biking trails easy to set off on; all sorts of other activities are available too, as surf schools, a golf course and a seawater swimming pool are in Perranporth. Riding stables are a mile away in Reen if you’re up for trotting over the top terrain.

Back at the park, there’s lots of room on each pitch for upgrading your space with a campfire and a barbecue, plus hay bales are for hire if you’d like to add some seating.

Firewood, camping essentials and free-range eggs from the site’s chickens are for sale in the self-service shop; kids can run free in the hay bale play area and across the green grounds or say oink to the smallholding’s rare-breed Cornish black pigs under your watchful eye after you've sorted out the essentials.

Facilities are basic at this park – which is all part of the appeal – but there are showers and compost toilets.

Please note

Minimum spacing of 2 metres between pitches.

The play area is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

We loved our stay here. But be warned, it is a basic campsite, something that we prefer. The site is very exposed so we delayed a day because of the latest storm and the rain was horrendous but we still had a great stay. The site owner was really friendly. The walk along the cliffs to St Agnes was beautiful. We’re planning to stay there again in the future.

Beautiful views, cliff top location adjacent to the coast path just a few minutes walk from Perranporth. Friendly, helpful owner who was available to help and advise. Very basic, but clean, toilets and shower.
In good weather this site would have been perfect. We managed to arrive as the exceptionally high winds of Storm Ellen battered the UK and the site is simply too exposed for such weather. Even with hay bales (kindly provided by the owner) to create wind breaks the winds made it too dangerous. We managed one night but the tent was then too damaged to stay.

    Disliked:

A double-edged sword - the exposed location is beautiful but only in calm weather.

Local attractions

The main attraction at this park is the excellent access to coastal walks and cycle routes right from the grounds. Wander down to Perranporth beach, a fab family-friendly stretch of sand 10 minutes’ stroll away, to try a bit of surfing and kayaking or just settle in on a towel and watch the kids play.

If you’re up for a longer lope, potter two miles to the Perran Round Iron Age fort or saunter to St Agnes (four miles away) for a cracking cove and more chances to ride waves. The surfing hub of Newquay is also nearby (15 minutes' drive) and has a zoo to zoom around as well.

Other major Cornish attractions including the Eden Project, with its futuristic biodomes filled with botanicals, and the Tate St Ives contemporary art museum, are within a 40-minute drive. Take a trip to Truro (20 minutes), the capital of the county, as well to admire the cathedral.

More ace architecture is sprinkled throughout the region, including the National Trust’s Trelissick Garden (25 minutes), the pretty Prideaux Place (40 minutes) and the John Nash-designed Caerhays Castle.

Must see

  • Lappa Valley Steam Railway (5.5 miles)
  • Fistral Beach (6.2 miles)
  • Blue Reef Aquarium (6.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Trerice (6.3 miles)
  • Cornish Mines and Engines (8.9 miles)
