  • In Cornish mining country a few minutes' drive form Land's End
  • Regular bus service just outside
  • Restaurant, shop and bar
This is a little gem of a site: in the heart of Cornish mining country, near the cracking walks of the Cot Valley and Cape Cornwall, and within a few minutes’ drive of St Just, Land’s End and one of the best beaches in the land at Sennen Cove. Prefer to just hang around? Two of Cornwall’s top climbing spots, Bosigran and Chair Ladder, are within a few miles. Trevaylor Touring Park is the only caravan and camping park in Cornwall to be deep in the middle of the county’s mining heritage; it’s minutes away from the cliffside Crown Mines engine houses and within walking distance of the National Trust’s Levant Mine and Beam Engine. Guests won’t have to dig deep to find spectacular scenery and impressive cliffs in the vicinity either: Trevaylor is 500 metres from the 17-mile coastal stretch between St Just and St Ives, described as ‘one of the most romantic roads in Britain’. Regular buses stop outside the park, including the open-top hop on/hop off that goes to Land’s End, Penzance, St Ives and all around the peninsula. Climbing groups, rallies and groups of outdoor pursuiters are all welcome at Trevaylor – and well-behaved dogs, for free. Pitches are in five neat enclosures sheltered by trees and shrubs, and facilities include clean up to date toilets and showers, free hot water for dishwashing, a launderette and two deep sinks for rinsing off wetsuits. Kids have an outdoor play area with huge sandpit and there’s also a games room with TV, pool and darts. The on-site shop is well stocked for basics, including Calor gas for cooking, but you’ll probably think the foodie jewel in the crown is the light and airy on-site restaurant, with home-cooked meals at decent prices. Trevaylor also has a bar serving real Cornish ales – essential to sample on a holiday to Cornwall, we think…

Local attractions

This corner of Cornwall is crammed with activities and attractions for all ages and tastes, from surfing to lonely coves to art galleries to clifftop theatre. Like half of Cornwall, the area around Trevaylor Touring Park is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and there are dozens of spectacularly scenic spots to see here including the ‘paradise’ of Porthcurno Beach, lovely Land’s End and Lamorna Cove, the village and sheltered beach of Mousehole and whatever you can manage of the 630 miles of the South West Coast Path. The additional AONB of the Isles of Scilly is a popular day trip from here for sightseeing, sailing and birdwatching; some of the rarest birds in Europe can often be seen from here. Sennen Cove, acclaimed as one of the cleanest beaches in Europe, is three miles from Trevaylor and is one of the purtiest sandy spots you’ll see anywhere, and probably the most popular surfing beach in west Cornwall because of its regular rolling waves. Take the board out to catch them, stay on land and wander around the shops, pubs and galleries of the harbour, or have a clamber at the Pedn-men-du promontory, popular with climbers. If you’re feeling fighting fit, the 11.7 mile stretch of South West Coast Path from Sennen Cove to Lamorna is bally beautiful. Culture vultures have two famed options within easy reach: the Tate at award-winning seaside town St Ives, and the world famous Minack Theatre, open-air and carved into the cliffside. The fishing port of Newlyn also has an art gallery; from here art fans can walk the mile and a half along the promenade to sister gallery The Exchange, on the doorstep of Penzance. St Just, an ancient village less than a mile from Trevaylor, has a vibrant arts scene for its size and is known for its annual Lafrowda Festival, a fortnight of events celebrating local and community art.
