General

  • Quiet, family-run site in the middle of the Lands End peninsula
  • Spacious pitches individually marked with hedges
  • Café and bar on site

Want to run away from it all but avoid the crowds of Cornwall in clement weather? Come to the end of the country and pitch up near smashingly scenic Land's End at family-run Cardinney Caravan and Camping Park.

This is a site for those into their scenery: the four and three-quarter acres of grounds have been carefully landscaped to be filled with flowers, trees and shrubs, alongside roomy pitches thoughtfully laid out and individually marked with hedges.

There's also a National Trust viewpoint at the back of the park, where guests can sit and stare on clear days at the wide-ranging views to the Isles of Scilly, Lizard Point and Cape Cornwall. Award-winning Sennen Cove, full of surfing spots, wildlife watching and stunningly scenic sands, is less than three miles away.

On site, the café dishes up breakfasts, evening meals and takeaways, and there's also a small bar (for refreshments to take to the National Trust viewpoint?). If you like to cater for your own needs, the well-stocked shop sells Calor gas alongside grocery essentials.

Cardinney also has free hot showers, a fully equipped launderette, a pool table and TV.

Please note that the arrival time is from 1pm onwards.

Loved the layout and how quiet and peaceful it was. Although the campsite was very busy there was enough space for everyone. Very impressed by the facilities and although we didn't visit the restaurant it looked (and smelled) really nice. The owners were very accommodating and gave us a pitch where our anxious dog wouldn't get stressed. Lovely stay! Easy to get into both Penzance and Lands End

Well manicured site with good hedging to give a bit of privacy. The site is a bit remote so having a bar and small restaurant facilities were a bonus. The owners were very helpful.

    Disliked:

No facilities for exercising the dogs on site or in the area.
Site was a little noisey between 10pm and 11pm with small kids out playing and some loud music.
The toilet facilities are a little dated.

Directions

Follow the signs to Land's End on the main A30 trunk road. Cardinney is 5 miles west of Penzance on the right side of the road. The No1 bus from Penzance station and the open-top number 300 to Land's End stop at the crossroads further along the A30. Local taxi firms have a fixed tariff for the journey from Penzance.

Local attractions

Have a look at the leaflets in Cardinney's information hut to see the best of what's nearby: sandy beaches, surfing, golf, fishing, horse riding and seaside towns and villages are all within five miles.

Land's End first, of course… of all the scenic spots in Cornwall, this is among the most spectacular, and we'd recommend a couple of days at least roaming around the beaches, coves and cliffs here.

Secluded Sennen Cove and its sparkling sands are a first stopoff for many, who come to soak up the sun on its sands or tackle the waves on its surf. Whitesands Beach is also well-regarded for surf and joins up with the mile of beach at Gwenver where the waves are a bit stronger (all three beaches are lifeguarded in summer).

On the cliffs, one of the best Land's End occupations in our opinion is just to sit and watch the waves crashing below, but if you're itching for a hike, visit the visitors' centre for a list of walks around the area, or the RSPB Wildlife Discovery Centre just below the famous Land's End signpost to find out what species you can see.

In the evening, the famed open-air Minack Theatre at Porthcurno is probably one of this area's best-known manmade things, set into the cliffs and listed as one of the most spectacular theatres in the world. The season runs from May to September, but tickets are available to look around the theatre and gardens during the day.

Cardinney Caravan and Camping Park is an obliging base for other much-visited Cornish attractions like National Trust houses and gardens, family days out and yet more spectacular beaches: try Godolphin at Helston, Flambards theme park, or lying on the sands at Marazion, the Mousehole or along the coast at St Ives.
