Who needs Honolulu when you’ve got Holywell Bay just a simple skip away from you? This open sandy beach is right on the doorstep (or should we say, your pitch step) when you stay at Trevornick Holiday Park in Cornwall. Completely family friendly - yep, that includes the pooch too - Trevornick has it all, and the National Trust-protected sand dunes, rockpools and surf- and swimming-friendly waves (overlooked by lifeguards during peak season) at Holywell Bay are just the start.

This five-star site is sure to accommodate for you doing as much (or as little) as you please on holiday. Alongside facilities like heated showers, indoor dishwashing areas, a laundrette, a hire shop and farm shop, just some of the added little bonuses on site include an outdoor play area, a free children’s club, evening entertainment, dog-walking fields, three fishing lakes, a heated pool and a choice of bars and eateries for those days you don’t fancy taking to the stove. Just make sure you check which facilities are available during on- and off-peak seasons as they vary. If you go during peak time, book yourself into the Tranquility Spa for a treatment (or two). Go on - the kids won’t even notice you’re gone while they’re at surf school and he’ll be fine left at the sports bar.

Anyone for pasties, ice cream or scones? Yes please. We’ll take all three. Perfectly located to enjoy the best of Cornwall for outdoorsy types, the village of Crantock and the busier Newquay are just along the coast from Trevornick so shoppers and foodies can go wild too.

Leave the M5 at Junction 31 onto the A30 signposted Okehampton. Stay on the A30 all the way into Cornwall, ignoring the signs to Newquay. Just after Mitchell, at the end of the dual carriageway, you come to a roundabout with big wind turbines on your right. Stay on the A30 towards Redruth and Perranporth. After 1.5 miles turn right onto the B3285 towards Perranporth.

After 0.5 miles turn right again onto Scotland Road towards Rejerrah. This road comes to a junction after 1.6 miles. Turn right here onto the A3075 towards Newquay. After just one mile, turn left towards Cubert and Holywell Bay. Stay on this road through Cubert and after about two miles you will see Trevornick on your right. There's a big sign - you can't miss us!

Local attractions

Backdrops don’t come much better than Trevornick. Overlooking Gull Rocks and with National Trust-protected Holywell Bay beach just steps away, the mile-long stretch of sand, dunes, rockpools and waves mean we can almost hear this site calling you.

Despite the five-star site providing an abundance of activities to keep the family busy, we think it’s borderline criminal to visit the county of Cornwall and not do a bit of exploring. Close to Trevornick you’ve got Holywell Bay Golf Club so you can swing till your heart’s content and feel more California than Cornwall; all you need is to find an agreeable caddie to join you. Kids (and big kids) will enjoy losing their inhibitions at Holywell Bay Fun Park which has F1 Go-Karts for channeling that inner mini Hamilton. Fast cars not up your street? How about a bit of treasure instead? Children can make like pirates and pan for gold at the park too. Access to the Fun Park is easy and it’s free (one of our favourite words), all you have to do is pay as you play. Ask at Trevornick reception for their latest special offers for the Fun Park which may help to save you precious extra pennies.

Home to the Boardmasters festival, a short drive north from Trevornick you’ll find the famous Fistral Beach which well worth a trip for a spot of fish and chips, even if riding the waves isn’t your thing. A great beach with cafés, bars and one of the best surf schools in the country, check out what’s going on at the beach on their website as it can get very busy, especially when the festival and surf events are on. Close to Fistral and about a fifteen minute drive from Trevornick, animal-lovers will be able to lose themselves at Newquay Aquarium and Newquay Zoo, which make a pleasant alternative from getting sand between your toes just for a morning or so. Restaurants and shops are popular in Newquay too, so there’s something for everyone in case the zoo’s gift shop doesn’t quite have what you’re after.

Hop on the A30 and The Eden Project is about a 40-minute drive from Trevornick, just on the opposite side of the peninsula. Why not make a day trip of it and pootle an extra fifteen minutes down the road to Carlyon Bay while you’re there - that way you can say you’ve seen the ocean from both sides! Just an idea, but we can assure you seaside travellers that it’s equally beautiful and worth a glimpse. Head south from Trevornick for an hour or so and you’ll arrive at Land’s End - also another great pick for a day trip for those who love to be near the water. Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps make for a great photoshoot a little closer to home, just half an hour from the campsite.

Falmouth’s excellent maritime museum makes for an enjoyable trip for young explorers if the seas are a little too wild to take a dip in themselves while the National Trust Elizabethan house Trerice offers an impressive change from the beach scenery in the area.

All in all, we think it’s fair to say that Trevornick is pretty terrific.
