Think Newquay and you think – surf? And you’d be right: the north Cornish town is probably the most famed spot in Cornwall for those who like to plunge with their boards into the foaming waves. But non-surfers who visit Newquay find there are quite a few other draws here… and so we come to Treloy Touring Park.
Not only is this fab family-friendly park only a couple of miles from stonking Newquay Zoo, but the zoo staff visit during the school holidays and bring furry zoo critters with them. Squee! If we’re over-excited about that, we can only imagine how your eight year old will react. (Best bring earplugs.)
Mini zoologists will also go ape over Treloy’s nature trail, while holidaymakers of all sizes have a heated outdoor pool to splash about in and evening entertainment such as live music and magicians in high season. Minis are kept entertained during the main school holiday times too, with activities such as puppet making, treasure hunts and music for an hour or so most early evenings.
Not that the kids will care, but grownups might also appreciate Treloy Touring Park’s location, tucked away quietly from the Cornish summer crowds but close to Newquay and within a few minutes’ drive some of Cornwall’s best beaches. Care to tee off? Treloy Golf Course with driving range, nine-hole course, golf shop with club hire and licensed clubhouse is just down the road, with concessionary prices for Treloy guests.
The park’s modern amenities are kept to high standards by the friendly crew, which goes out of its way to ensure that guests of all sizes have a tiptop time. Supplywise, the café, bar, takeaway and well-stocked shop on site should cater for most of your needs during the high season (please check the site's 'Policies' tab for more info); any holiday park shop that sells Cornish pasties will likely be a big hit with the kids too.
