Newquay Holiday Lets: Decking and garden area

General

  • Family-friendly caravans 15 minutes’ walk from Porth beach
  • A 10-minute drive from Newquay; 15 minutes from Fistral Beach
  • Pubs, restaurants and a food shop within walking distance of the site

Coast appreciators, surfers, hikers and fans of lazy days on the sand, unite and make Newquay Holiday Lets your next base. What a base this is… the site’s family-friendly caravans are only 15 minutes’ walk away from Porth Beach, where the surf’s often up and there are rockpools, sand and a footbridge to a mini-island.

Newquay is only 10 minutes’ drive away too, good news for those who are interested in chasing down dolphins or fresh fish on a boat trip. Foodies won’t have anything to worry about either, with pubs and restaurants being within walking distance of the caravans (including a spot over the beach – how splendid).

If you’d rather dine on concoctions of your own making, the caravans are all self-catering. Cooking equipment available for you to take charge of includes a cooker, microwave, refrigerator and kitchen and dining utensils. They also have a shower and toilet, wifi, a colour television, double glazing, central heating and all duvets, pillow and linen.

Grab any recipe ingredients from the shop half an hour’s walk away. There are more shops in New Quay, of course, along with the Newquay Zoo (10 minutes’ drive) and watersports companies that will soon get you out on the water.

    Nothing

    Disliked:

Absolutely awful. We stayed in Caravan 101 for a horrible 2 nights of our 4 night booking from 9th August.

When we arrived there were broken blinds on the floor for both bathrooms. So no privacy when we went to the loo.
The TV aerial was not connected and the lead was broken so we couldn't use it.
The freezer was completely frozen over so could not be used.
The table and chairs outside had clearly not been cleaned as there was old bird poo on and a lot of dirt.
An old dirty tray was on the floor and there was rubbish like fag buts and mussel shells at the entrance.
The kitchen had most of it's basic items missing...like no teaspoons at all and the baking trays had not been cleaned, full of crumbs and grease. We had to wash all of the kitchen items before using them as they had lip stick stains on the glasses, grease and old food marks.
The towels had stains on them and the carpet was not clean.

We reported the problems and was advised that maintenance would be around the following day to resolve the issues. We left about 11am the following morning to go to the beach, when we returned to the caravan in the afternoon, we discovered no one had been around and was advised by a text from Louise that maintenance had been but as no one was in they didn't do anything. My response...am I really supposed to wait in all day for them? What a joke. Surely they should have a master key or could have gained access! Or at least organise a time with us to visit...Despicable service. Absolute cowboys.

I had a call with Maintenance who told me that they were unaware of the problems in the caravan as the cleaner's hadn't said anything. Then when talking about all the missing items, I said didn't they do an inventory, he said they have people stealing things and they are short staffed and how Louise has to do the Laundry herself. Don't sell a holiday over £600 for 4 nights, if you can't provide the service. It is against trading standards laws, they sold something not as described nor fit for purpose.

To top it off, we booked a family holiday and had no idea we were right next to Boardmasters festival. It was in the next field and the noise was terrible. On the first night we were kept awake all night by noisy generators from the festival site I assume keeping all the lights on. The second night was even worse. The field was full of festival goers who were quite rightly having a great old time. Amplified music, singing and swearing at the top of their voices! We should not have been sold a family holiday so close to a festival for young party goers. It is unethical not to tell us first.

My 8 year old daughter was in tears trying to get to sleep...and the noise went well into the early hours. I sent a video on Whatsapp to Nigel (maintenance) and he replied if we wanted to move elsewhere that we could leave by 10am and get a refund. We stayed up all night looking for alternative accommodation.. and it ruined the first two days of our holiday.

I am still waiting for my refund and despite several attempted phone calls, texts and voicemail to Louise (the owner) I have had no response.

Lovely clean caravan on a nice quiet site.
Stones throw away from two beaches meant we could walk to where we wanted to be.
Pools were an added bonus and the kids absolutely loved them.
Staff on site were friendly and helpful.
    Site was clean.
Small arcades section for the kids and family entertainment in the bar.
My children really loved the fact we had full working WiFi as it meant they could play their Xbox and watch TV in an evening.
Autism friendly site for my two autistic children.

    Disliked:

It is not mentioned in the listing that the pools require an additional payment for the week.
We struggled with check in as we had no contact from the agent about how to check in and access keys etc. I was calling and emailing through out our 7hour journey. Thankfully the staff on site managed to help us with check in by contacting the caravan owner.
Some basic bits were missing which we would have liked, for example no teaspoons, no scissors and no chopping board for in the kitchen made cooking a little difficult. Would have liked a hairdryer and iron too but we managed.
Couldn't get the TV to work but luckily we had brought the Xbox so watched TV through that.

Local attractions

One of the most famous local spots for splendid surf and laidback vibes is Fistral Beach (15 minutes’ drive). There’s a surf school for any newbies to surfing, bodyboarding or paddleboarding, so no one needs to be left out no matter how wobbly they might be on a board.

Swap your surfboard for a steam train in Lappa Valley (15 minutes). Here, you’ll get to meet engines, which go by names such as Arthur and Muffin, and let one of them take you on a ride.

Another family-friendly attraction is the Camel Creek Family Theme Park (20 minutes), where the rides are of the spinning chairs and log flume sort.

Those who aren’t quite ready to quit the sand yet don’t need to either. Perranporth Beach (25 minutes) is, once again, popular for paddleboarding and surfing, but there’s plenty of sand to sculpt or snooze on too. Holywell Bay (20 minutes) also has a cave and an Argentine shipwreck, which is revealed at low tide.
