  • Lively family park five minutes' drive from the coast at Looe
  • Huge range of facilities including cabaret room, bar, diner and café
  • Indoor pool, toddlers' pool, swim lessons, sports room and shop
‘We’re all going on a summer holiday…’ And a spring, autumn and, er, winter one too… At Tencreek Holiday Park, the nearest park to lovely Looe in Cornwall, you and the family can arrive in all seasons as a base for the best of south-east Cornwall and Devon, or just stay on site to spoil yourselves silly with the lashings of facilities and entertainment for all ages. And the views are pretty tenfastic too… Tencreek is aimed at families and couples, and as such has any number of tiptop things to try: a kids’ club just for starters, and an adventure playground and sports pitch for small sorts to whirl around outside. More grownuply, the park also has the Castaway entertainment complex with large cabaret room, bar, Deano’s Diner and indoor sports room with darts and pool; there's also family entertainment every night from the Yellow Coats and Tencreek mascots. Don’t forget the dog either: the park is dog friendly and has a dog walking area with access to the public footpath. If it rains, the kids won’t even notice once you get them to the heated indoor pool and toddlers’ pool, which are also open all year and free to use (there are classes such as Aquafit and kids’ swimming lessons available at a small additional charge). The thoughtful folk at Tencreek have ensured that the pool is always lifeguarded, and there are even adults-only sessions at times, if you can manage to get the kids dried off and packed off for a bit… The park also has a fully-stocked food shop, a café with takeaway and a modern laundry.

Liked: Possibility to go swimming and indoor areas as the weather was bad

Disliked: We didn't go in the end. The weather was very wet and windy. The campsite were happy to take our booking and money earlier in the week but when we called the site on the day we were meant to arrive, to check everything was ok, they said that the pitches were boggy and they were recommending people to move to the hard standings. We were in a tent so couldn't pitch on the hard standings, and they had told us that they recommended not pitching on the tent pitches. There wouldn't give a refund but said they would move our booking to another weekend minus the pitch up deposit. So we paid for a pitch for a weekend which they then couldn't offer (although the lady at the campsite was careful with her words to not say it like that), and we now have a weekend camping not quite paid for which we do not need.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Staff were incredibly friendly. It was my first time camping and it was stressful but the park, facilities and staff really made it easier.

Disliked: Not the parks fault but the grass pitch was water logged and my van got stuck. But a quick call to reception and someone came and pulled me out The WiFi pricing seems a bit expensive so didn't use

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: It was okay not the best but equally not the worst. The showers and toilets were very clean The staff were friendly but unless you went to them in shop or reception there was very little interaction. We’re used to a bit more of a personal touch with explaining local walks etc so this was definitely missing. Site was conveniently located by the south west costal paths so plenty of walks.

Disliked: The pitch was sloped so did find yourself sliding to the bottom of the bed at night. The grass seemed to have been cut everywhere bar where our pitches were. The weather wasn’t great so found the pitch got very boggy but when it was sunny was absolutely fine. did find some showers were luke warm or pressure was a dribble. The hot water took some time to come through to shower and taps could just do with a bit of maintenance. WiFi was not included by the pitch and was very expensive not how it seems on pitch up

Electric grass pitch (maximum 6 metres)

Liked: Very helpful people and excellent facilities. There's a shop, a club with a cafe and an indoor swimming pool. The heated toilet & shower block was really warm on our late winter stay. There's a footpath from the site down to Talland Bay, which made a nice short walk. There's a bus service from Polperro to Looe and Plymouth that stops at the end of the lane.

Electric grass pitch (maximum 6 metres)

Liked: Lovely walks around: - Talland Bay | 30 Minutes - Polperro Coastal Walk | 2 hours - Looe | 30 minutes - Looe Coastal Walk | 2 hours These are at leisurely pace. We really enjoyed the pool too.

Disliked: We were on a grass pitch for our campervan, and because it was always foggy and was raining so much, we had to be towed out but nothing really to do with the site.

Local attractions

Oodles of activities and attractions await once you’ve dragged yourself off site: pootle around Looe’s Harbour Quay, Banjo Pier and the 16th-century Old Guildhall in East Looe, or take a boat to Looe (St George’s) Island, where just once a year on a very low tide it’s possible to stroll to it across the sand. Sea-based sightseers can go from Looe to Fowey and take the ferry to Polruan or Bodinnick and the former house of Daphne du Maurier (Daphne and Rebecca fans can also go ghost hunting at Cornwall’s legendary coaching house at Bodmin Moor, said to be the county’s most famous smuggling inn). Most day trippers take a car for the 12-mile Looe-Fowey journey, but if you’re feeling energetic enough and want to see some stunning coastal scenery, the local South West Coast Path hike goes from West Looe to Polruan via Hannafore, Talland Bay and Polperro. You officially have full permission to get a bus or taxi back…
