Bordered by the tors and moors of Bodmin, this roomy lakeside campsite at Siblyback Lake Country Park offers a good range of water and land-based activities for all ages and abilities.
Visitors can hire out windsurfers, rowing boats, kayaks and sailing dinghies (or bring their own), and there are friendly instructors on site for tuition, if needed. A new cable wakeboarding system, the only clockwise system in the UK, has also been installed recently. For two-wheelers, a pretty three-mile cycle path snakes around the lake to make the best of the wonderful views, and is also fully accessible to wheelchair users.
The tranquil lake by Siblyback Lake Campsite offers excellent walking and birdwatching, and is renowned among fly fishermen thanks to its teeming trout. It’s a Trout Master fishery, which means that if you catch a whopper it’ll be entered into the eponymous nationwide competition; see if you can beat Siblyback’s current record of a 10lb 8oz rainbow trout. Even if you don’t net the big one, you should still manage a decent catch: recent years have seen rod averages of three fish per angler. Fishing permits (available on site; fly fishing only) are required for everyone over 12 years of age.
Little monkeys will enjoy the high ropes course, archery and water-zorbing balls. The site also features two play areas for toddlers and older children, as well as a pleasant lakeside café serving snacks, light meals and the understandably ubiquitous Cornish cream tea.
