Those among you who like luxury berths, teeny tiny farm sites, cracking customer service and picking up fresh organic eggs/rare breed meat to sizzle gently over the campfire should flock to Penbugle Farm (‘shepherd’s hill’ in Cornish) for some properly peaceful days.

Even by Cornish standards, the location of Penbugle Farm is one to toot about: between the old market town of Liskeard and the fishing port of Looe; 25 minutes from the Tamar Bridge and the Devon / Cornwall border, and halfway between the highlights of Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor. It’s run by the five members of the hospitable Ridout family, who have been living on and farming this land since moving from Dorset in 2005: if this is your first visit to Cornwall, they’ll be happy to share their tips and info on things to do.

On the farm, you won’t even hear a car engine roaring past your pitch – cars are only allowed in the designated parking area outside the paddock to keep things as safe and sedate as possible on site. (Fret not if you’re thinking this means you have to stagger to your pitch or wigwam with armfuls of kit; wheelbarrows and trolleys are provided to cart your stuff/over-excited small children/the dog along to where you’re staying.)

Whether guests wheel their bits and bobs to pick a tent pitch, bed down in a bell tent or wake up in a wooden wigwam, they all have access to the pristine Penbugle facilities including loos, showers, a washing-up area with hot and cold taps, and a cleanly kept communal kitchen with cooker, microwave, fridge, kettle, pots and pans (recycling facilities are available too).

Outdoors, there are picnic tables to park at and have your campfire-cooked meal; you can pick up fresh farm and local produce on site when available, as well as wood and fuel for a campfire or barbie. And don’t forget your torch and wellies: this is serious stargazing country because of the low light pollution…cosmic.

Terms and conditions

Please read the park terms and conditions below and the Pitchup.com terms and conditions.

All wigwams are self-catering and are provided with foam mattresses. Bell tents are provided with cotton roll mattresses. Please make your own provisions as necessary for bed linen, towels, pillows, crockery and cutlery.

The price includes use of the shower, toilet and kitchen facilities, which are all open 24 hours.

Wigwams, bell tents and pitches are available between 2.30pm and 6pm on your day of arrival.

Wigwams, bell tents and pitches to be vacated by 10.30am on your day of departure.

Cancellations must be made, and confirmed by us, at least two weeks prior to the start of the holiday.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome. You must however clean up after your dog at all times and keep dogs on leads as this is a working livestock farm. You will be asked to leave the premises without a refund if this condition is breached.

Fires or barbecues allowed in designated areas only, to minimise the risk of fire etc. All firewood to be purchased on site due to safety reasons.

Cars have a separate parking area outside the paddock; wheelbarrows/trollies are provided to transport your equipment to the wigwams. This keeps the site vehicle-free and safe.

We believe in recycling our rubbish to help preserve our environment, so please use the recycling bins provided when disposing of rubbish on site.
