Yes, there are still places in this country where the boss can’t track you down... If you sometimes think you’re going to have to surgically remove the smartphone from your other half’s mitts, you might want to have a butchers at this gorgeous wild camping site (shhh, there’s no phone signal).
Buzzards Bridge is one for those who like 'proper' camping, with rustic facilities and no crowds. With only a handful of pitches, everyone gets tons of room, there’s a communal campfire and benches by the babbling brook, and the loo is a 'tree bog' high up in the willows (an experience described by one guest as 'strangely enjoyable').
Not only that but there are no cars - unless you come in a campervan - and no electricity, just the peace and quiet of a deliciously secret meadow surrounded by ancient trees and sparkling streams, tucked away in one of the country’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Fuel is provided by willow grown on site, and the off-grid electricity supply is all from solar. With a strict no noise policy after 9pm, the only cries you’re likely to hear are those of Bargos, the resident buzzard.
There’s plenty of parking near the main gates, where guests can also grab a wheelbarrow to trundle their kit down to their pitch. Alternatively, the friendly owners will even arrange transport to and from a local public transport hub (eg Redruth Station) with a bit of advance notice.
Firewood is for sale on site, and barbecues are welcome.
Open from 20 Jun to 14 Sep
Buzzards Bridge is in the heart of prime tourist territory, with all the beaches and attractions of West Cornwall just a short distance away. There’s a horse-riding place just up the bridle path from the site, plus cycling, rambling, surfing, sailing, kayaking and more in the surrounding area.

Travelling down in heavy rain meant we were held up badly on the road. Really glad we'd swopped mobile numbers with Justin who stayed well past our expected arrival time just to welcome us on site and show us around. Civilised wild camping - perfect! 25 Aug 2012

When driving from Helston in the direction of the Lizard, about 4.5 miles away from Helston, just after a valley you'll pass the Wheel Inn pub on your left. Take the next right hand turning down Chypons road, and follow it until you reach the bottom of the valley. Over a bridge you'll then see the entrance gate to Buzzards Bridge on your right. Please shut the gate after you and if locked you'll have to go back up the hill to get a signal and call using the number in your confirmation. Thanks.
