Ever felt you really wanted to let loose? And – even better – let the kids yet looser while you bask on a sun-soaked terrace in a suntrap valley, sipping a cocktail from the on-site bar? Why, we can almost hear the ice cubes clinking as we type.

Don’t get uptight at the thought of Cornwall being crowded in peak season: award-winning and family-friendly Calloose Caravan Park is over eight and a half acres of countryside at Hayles near St Ives, and is designed for those who want to get away from the hordes. And dogs: the park is dog-friendly with dog walking fields on site. Woof.

The park is teeming with things to do: freewheeling sprogs are free to do what they want any old time, with a kids’ paddling pool, adventure playground and games room with three pool tables, proper sized table tennis tables (for essential tournaments), crazy golf, driving and shooting games, and gift machines (perhaps helpful to bribe/console runners up at table tennis).

Naturally the grown-ups are smartly catered for too: as well as the spacious sunbathing terrace, non-kids have a bar, restaurant, takeaway and shop for the essentials, a tennis court, and – although the youngsters won’t be interested – a launderette, recycling point opposite the shop and chemical waste points at each toilet block.

Pitches on the park are large, terraced and individually marked/numbered to avoid overcrowding even in the height of summer, with seven areas for touring caravans and tents, and tarmac roads for easy access. Light travellers can book into a lodge or holiday home with fully-equipped kitchen and a TV even the sprogs might approve of, with 40 – 46 inch Freeview and DVD.

The Calloose team prides itself on its customer service and attention to detail, and the entire park is also carefully landscaped to welcome local wildlife and flowers – we think even the most Xbox-gripped youngster might be persuaded to let loose…
