General

  • On the Fowey Estuary
  • Slipway adjoining the site
  • Pub and waterfront café a short stroll away

Simply messing about in boats is a breeze at Penmarlam Caravan and Camping Park, on the Fowey Estuary in Cornwall. Lucky enough to have your own boat? Launch it straight onto the sparkling waters from the slipway adjoining the site. More cabin boy/girl than captain? Test your sea legs by hiring a kayak nearby, or jump aboard one of the scenic ferries to Fowey and beyond.

Even if you're a confirmed landlubber, you’ll like the cut of this site's jib: the pitches are generous enough to give everyone a wide berth, and the facilities most definitely shipshape.

The park shop is chock-a-block with kit and vittles at reasonable prices, plus there's wifi (free for the first 20 minutes), immaculate showers and toilets, a laundry room and an information centre to help you fathom out all the local attractions.

A good pub and a waterfront café are a stroll away so you can go with the flow when it comes to the catering too.

Large well spaced pitches, clean and welcoming site 17/07/2017

Stayed in July 2017, extremely peaceful and relaxing holiday, Wardens on hand if needed but left you alone otherwise. Showers and toilets very clean. There are only 3 showers in the ladies when we stayed the site was not full but you did sometimes have to wait to use the shower.
Shop was extremely well stocked and reasonable prices.
We BBQ'd most evenings and were visited by hedgehogs and rabbits.
Penmarlam is an extremely good base for exploring the area and Fowey was a delight.
Pitches are massive we have a large tent and the pitch accommodated it with lots of room to spare.

    Disliked:

Barking dogs at night but this was due to dogs owners not the campsite

All is so quiet there, tidy, clean, picturesque views and not too much of a walk to the water & local Country Inn (up hill on the way back). All you could ask for really. The toilet/shower block is clean with hot water. My wife & I would definitely come back - probably with friends too. Good phone & Tv signal.

    Disliked:

Smell near toilet/shower block - due to cess pit for loos maybe?

Clean Facilities. Friendly, helpful customer service / shop. Although it was a lovely site and very friendly, there was nothing locally in the way of attractions or pubs which meant having to board the ferry.

    Disliked:

Bit of a trek, having to use ferry to get anywhere.

Very clean, quiet campsite in great location. Friendly staff, always willing to offer tips about the local area. A short 15 minute walk to the lovely Old Ferry Inn in Bodinnick (but an uphill walk back to the campsite, although don't let that put you off!)

    Disliked:

Stop/start shower (although this is probably to save water).

Local attractions

Guests often give the car a few days off at Penmarlam Caravan and Camping Park and leg it around the alluring coastal paths instead: there are some gorgeous coves, cliffs and bays in the immediate vicinity.

Alternatively, it takes just a few minutes aboard the ferry from the neighbouring village of Bodinnick to reach the pretty town of Fowey, veritably buzzing during its annual regatta week in August, but a lively spot at any time of year with its cornucopia of cafés, pubs, shops and restaurants, and a popular family beach at Readymoney Cove.

With many other excellent beaches within easy reach, this is prime territory for sea fishing trips and watersports of every description.

The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are the closest of the top attractions, both just a few miles away, but you’re really well placed at Penmarlam to reach all the delights of Cornwall: animal sanctuaries, historic homes and gardens, theme parks, castles, museums, and scenic towns such as Polperro and Looe.

Must see

  • Eden Project (6.5 miles)
  • Lost Gardens of Heligan (9.3 miles)
  • Cornwall's Crealy Great Adventure Park (16.8 miles)

National Trust

  • Trerice (18.6 miles)
  • Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps (20.2 miles)
