Sycamores Camping: The pitch

General

  • Quiet and secure pop-up site in three acres of garden surrounds
  • In the small village of Valley Truckle, a mile from Camelford
  • Dog-friendly site with easy access to the A39

Camping, in Cornwall, near the coast?… Everything at Sycamores Camping points to a winning combination indeed, with the added bonus of being able to pitch up in a private and level three-acre paddock surrounded by floral gardens and Cornish hedging.

Set right off the A39, this family-friendly site is a pop-up affair, with basic portaloo toilets for ladies and gents, cold showers and great access to many of Cornwall's best beaches. A south-facing position, splendid sunsets and a backing track of birdsong all make Sycamores a relaxing place to stay – one that's within easy reach of the wilds of Bodmin Moor, north Cornwall’s secluded sandy coves and King Arthur's castle at Tintagel.

This site is located in the small village of Valley Truckle, a mile from Camelford. Amenities in this latter spot are varied, but highlights include takeaways, a well-stocked supermarket, a pub, a swimming pool and a fish and chip shop. Finally, there's a convenience store and garage directly opposite the site entrance for any last-minute dashes for supplies.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome to come and stay with you at this pet-friendly site.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Wonderful campsite, great location to shop and petrol and very central to all tourist locations. Extremely clean toilet and shower areas. The campsite host was so lovely and made us feel at home, and also she was very helpful in giving advice on where to eat and where to visit.

We will definitely visit again- and would recommend this campsite.

Alison was extremely welcoming with a relaxed approach. The site was basic & clean. It’s in Alison’s large well cared for garden in a great location. There is a basic shower outside, there are x2 Portaloos & a fresh water tap. If you want a no fuss easy-going and reasonably priced place to stay then Sycamores Camping fits the bill. We’ll definitely be back again.

It was an absolute joy to camp at Sycamores Camping. Alison was lovely, assisting our large group with everything we needed and allowing us as much space as we could have ever needed. The site is located in a lovely area and has numerous shops, takeaways, and activities to keep everyone entertained.
The toilet facilities are kept well cleaned and well stocked, and the showers are enough to keep clean with on hot days, though admittedly only basic.
In all of my camping experiences, I have never felt more welcomed and comfortable.

We arrived on the first day the campsite opened. The owner/host Alison was an absolute delight.

The site was clean and tidy, pitches were spacious and we had all we needed It is surrounded by a large hedge which supplied ample shielding from the winds..

There was a garage across the road which had a reasonably priced Londis which helped us top up our supplies.

The location is great, just under and hour from Perranporth, about an hour and a half from Lands End and 30 mins from the Eden Project.

We will be staying here again.

    Disliked:

The site was brand new so it’s hard to be critical of anything. In the future I would like to see a hot water supply.

Very nice lady who has opened her large garden as a Campsite for the first time. Pitched on her first ever night and was very pleased. Two porta loos but only cold showers which were hose heads out in the open. OK for a couple of nights in hot weather. Good location for walking and access to local beaches. Garage and londis shop opposite and a few takeaway restaurants locally. Definitely would go back😁 Read less
