Willow Valley Camping Park: Riverside pitches

General

  • Family-friendly site on spectacular Hartland Cornwall Heritage Coast
  • Less than two miles from the beaches and surf spots of Bude
  • Seven acres of scenic countryside for walks and dog walking

Pack those hiking boots, make sure cameras are fully charged and snag yourself a stay at Willow Valley Camping Park, a family-friendly site in the Cornish village of Bush, five minutes’ drive from the coastal town of Bude – you’ll most definitely want to put those legs to good use.

The site is on the stunning Hartland Cornwall Heritage Coast, with sandy beaches to stroll along, cliff walks to follow and plenty of spectacular treats to stumble on during travels, like the clifftop village of Clovelly, where cars are banned and donkeys are the main mode of transport. The fab long-distance South West Coast Path passes through Bude too, so lengthier rambles are within easy reach.

There’s a fair share of exploration to do on site too if a day at base appeals: seven acres of walks to wander (and dog walks as well, so bring pooch along), and a spacious adventure play park for the kids if they need a bit of distraction or grownups need a chance to unwind.

A small on-site shop will keep moods up during high season, taking the stress out of packing by stocking the basic essentials and giving little sugar bursts as needed (check out the selection of treats to get that all-essential fix). For more substantial fare, Bude has plenty of options for local eats.

AA 4 pennants

Please note

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

The grocery shop is open between 01/04 and 31/10.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Lovely quiet site and friendly couple running it. Very clean and well organised.

    Disliked:

Toilet tank disposal area needs some work, which they said they have planned and they asked for some advise on design.
Exit from site was uphill and on a bend which was a bit unnerving with the van on the back. A mirror across the road would give clearer site of oncoming traffic from around the bend.

Excellent bell tent, equipped with everything you need! Just turn up.07/06/2021

    Liked everything!

    Stayed in a bell tent.

We had 2 children (4 & 7) plus a large dog. Loads of space for a very comfortable double bed, plus 2 camp beds for the kids, the dog and still had space to store everything plus set up a projector for a movie night for the kids.

Tent comes with a cool box, power, kettle and bedside lamps. They even provide ice packs in the freezer for the cool boxes.

Outside there was a great big decking area (each bell tent has its own) with a pub style picnic table and chiminea.

Washrooms were brilliant, with separate make/female toilets and family sized shower rooms to make it easy for the parents.

Cafe is a life saver with breakfast every morning, ice creams, coffee and some essentials dry goods in the shop.

Location wise is excellent, under 5 mins drive to both beaches in Bude.

WiFi was plenty strong enough, but I don’t go on holiday with the family to spend time on the Internet.

We arrived on our sons birthday, and Chris and Jen even arranged for birthday cake, balloons and banners in the bell tent for our arrival. Amazing. Our son absolutely loved it!

There is also a sheltered communal kitchen and dining area for the bell tents, that had 4 gas hobs with pots and pans, a fridge, a freezer and sinks for washing up.

    Disliked:

We should have taken more friends to enjoy it with.

Local attractions

Start any stay here with an immediate jaunt into Bude – there’ll be something here for everyone. There are splashing times to be had on the town’s Widemouth, Crooklets and Summerleaze surf beaches (all about 10 minutes’ drive from base) and with a few hours of coasteering, paddleboarding or swimming in the sheltered sea pool. Anyone who prefers to stay on dry land can visit the heritage centre in Bude Castle or pass by the town’s oldest house, Quay Cottage.

Keep one foot in homes of the past by tripping around stately piles and seeing how the one percenters of yore lived hereabouts: within 45 minutes of base, wandering the halls and rooms of Hartland Abbey, Pencarrow House and the Lawrence House Museum comes highly recommended. The stunning cliffside ruins of Tintagel Castle (believed to be the place where legendary King Arthur was conceived) and the pretty RHS Garden Rosemoor are within 40 minutes for easy scenic strolls and explores.

There’s plenty to keep kids entertained too: The Milky Way, The Big Sheep amusement park and trips on the Launceston Steam Railway are within half an hour. If longer car rides aren’t a problem, Crealy Adventure Park, Exmoor Zoo, the Blue Reef Aquarium and the fab Eden Project are a little over an hour away.
